From the Acting Principal

Russell Lee

As we approach the end of a busy and rewarding Term 3, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the many highlights from the second half of the term at Cranbourne East Secondary College.

Our school production of Mamma Mia! was an outstanding success, showcasing the incredible talent, dedication, and teamwork of our students and staff. The energy and professionalism on display were truly inspiring, and it was fantastic to see our school community come together in support of the performing arts.

We also marked two important wellbeing events this term, R U OK? Day and Wear It Purple Day, both of which encouraged powerful conversations and promoted inclusivity, support, and awareness across the college. These days are a vital part of our commitment to student wellbeing and creating a safe, connected environment for all.

In sport, we were thrilled with our students’ achievements at the Division Athletics. Several CESC students broke records and will now progress to Regional competition, an incredible effort that reflects their hard work and commitment to excellence.

Our annual participation in the 4Cs (Cultivating Creative Cultures with Communities) Presentation Evening was another standout event, celebrating creativity and innovation across the school. CESC was proudly represented by 10 cultural groups, each sharing their traditions and talents with the community. The performances began with two of our Senior students singing live and playing guitar, setting the tone for an evening filled with energy and pride. A highlight of the event was the traditional Taualuga, the pinnacle of Samoan dance, culture and a sacred celebration of life, which saw all groups come together in a grand finale. It was truly inspiring to see the diverse cultures within our college represented on stage, celebrating unity, identity and the spirit of coming together as one community.

Our Year 9 students had a memorable experiences during the City Experience program, exploring Melbourne and developing their independence and teamwork skills. This was complemented by the Year 9 Mock Interviews, where students engaged in meaningful conversations with industry and community representatives, a valuable step in their personal and career development.

In senior school, we celebrated with our Year 11 students at the Year 11 Formal, a joyful evening full of style, celebration, and positive spirit.

This term we also held online Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews, allowing families to engage in productive conversations around learning progress and goals. I encourage all students and parents/guardians to continue to monitor GPA (Grade Point Average) in relation to the Positive Learning Behaviours.

Behind the scenes, the College has been working closely with Casey Basketball and Mantric Architecture to prepare a State Budget proposal for a new Sports Complex. This would be an exciting addition to our school and the local community, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the proposed project progresses.

As we close out the term, I would like to wish our Year 12 VCE students the very best for their practice exams, which will take place during the first week of the school holidays. These exams are a critical part of their preparation, and we know they will approach them with focus and determination. Congratulations also to our Year 12 VM students who have already been signed off as having completed their coursework, a fantastic milestone.

Thank you to our students, families, and staff for another successful term. Specific thanks and congratulations to Mr Matthew Jones and Ms Danielle Baillie for their work and support as Acting Assistant Principals this term. I wish everyone a safe, restful, and well-deserved term break, and we look forward to an exciting Term 4 ahead.

Warm regards,

Russell Lee
