Literacy

We are enjoy reading the text 'Boy' in class. The texts is a heartwarming tale about a young boy’s journey and experiences that encourage empathy and understanding. As we read, students are also learning about Auslan (Australian Sign Language), exploring how people communicate in different ways beyond spoken language.

By discovering Auslan and other forms of communication, students are gaining an appreciation for diversity and the importance of inclusive communication. This learning helps build respect and understanding for all members of our community.

Maths

The Koala's are diving deeper into measurement through hands-on learning experiences. Using everyday objects like blocks, money and counters, students are developing their skills in informal and initial formal measurement by comparing and ordering lengths in practical and engaging ways.

To build a strong foundation in area, Year 2 students are using counters and square tiles to create arrays—arranging objects in rows and columns—to discover how the total number of units determines the area of a shape. This hands-on approach helps them connect counting, repeated addition, and the early concepts of multiplication.

By building shapes on grid paper and measuring real-life spaces in the classroom, students are applying their learning to everyday contexts, making maths both meaningful and fun.
