日本語 Japanese

Thank you so much for helping our students wear something special on the Japanese Fun Day. I know how hard it is to even think about Japanese costumes, and it is not easy to make those creative costumes students want, and you don't even understand what they are. I can't say thank you enough to those parents who put effort into making them and spent their weekend doing so.
Costume Parade
Grade 6 leaders run the Japanese Fun Day again this year. Costume Parade Leaders, Darcy and Hudson, introduced our students' songs for junior students to sing and run the parade for each class. Kendama Leaders, Noah, Cameron and Harry explained the rules and instructions on how to make Kendama and run the Grand Finals.
Taiko "Japanese Drum"
Grades 1/2/3 and Foundation classes had a Taiko, Japanese Drum lesson with Ayako. She told me that students were super respectful, and they had a great concentration lesson with her. She loved coming up to Yarra Junction to teach Taiko every year, she mentioned. Grades 4/5/6 also had a great lesson; she taught them the timing and drum's sound intensity. Japanese Drum is a vital part of our culture, as they were used to initiate religious ceremonies, and are a part of our Japanese Dance "Bon Odori".
After the Recess, Cooking Leaders went to each class to help make Kappa maki (Cucumber rolls) . Harper and Millie helped the Foundation class, and Machilda, Sam and Annebelle helped Grades 1/2. Mackenzie, Summer and Clara went to Grade 3 class, and Marley, Sofie, and Issy went to Grades 4/5 class. Liam and Toby stayed to teach and assist the rest of their class.
Kappa Maki
We did not have much time to plan and prepare the Japanese Fun Day this year; however, Grade 6 leaders instructed and helped to run each activity so well. I am very proud of what they did and coordinated with each other to execute the Japanese Fun Day.
Kendama Competition
This is our third time doing the Kendama competition with our handmade cup Kendama. Real Wooden Kendama is a Japanese traditional toy, and you really need to have a skill to play; however, the cup Kendama is very easy, and students love to play with it.
Grand Finals
Thank you so much for coming to watch the Costume Parade again. Hope we all had a great day. My highlights for the day were the students' smiles and parade walking with music, and their concentration when they were doing the Kendama competition.
Have a lovely holiday, everyone! See you all in Term 4!
