Principal's

Report

by Helen Freeman, Principal

Welcome back everyone! I hope you enjoyed the break from school routine and were able to recharge the batteries, ready to launch into Term 4. We have another busy term ahead with an array of learning opportunities and experiences planned that includes the school musical ‘ Circus Splendida,’ the Solar Challenge, a range of sporting events, Years 3/4 Camp, Foundation-2 Swimming, School Disco, Year 6 Graduation celebrations, just to mention a few. All of this happens concurrently with the regular business of teaching and learning and professional development of staff. We are all looking forward to the weeks ahead with great enthusiasm.

Footy Day

Once again, we all enjoyed the footy day celebration day on the last day of term, it was a huge success. I would like to thank our wonderful Parent’s Association for organising the ‘special footy lunch’ which is always a highlight of the day.

Hats On

As per the schools and DoE SunSmart policy the students are required to wear hats from 1st September through until 30th April. As the days become longer, we urge all students and their families to make sure they wear a hat during break times – the UV rays can be quite strong even during the dreary weather! All students need to have their school hat on to always play outside! Please dig out your child’s hat and make sure they have it in their bag and that it is labelled with their name. You can purchase a new school hat from PSW, Glen Waverley and we also have them for sale at the Office.

Division Athletics

Yesterday, we had 18 students representing SSPS at the Division Athletics meet at the Bill Stewart Athletics track in East Burwood. All the students did an amazing job qualifying and then competing in the competition. There were five students who came third in their event with others achieving a PB. The following students have made it through to the next stage of the competition which is the Regional Athletics on the 23rd October at the Doncaster Athletics Track. We wish them all the very best, go Syndal!

Imogen – 1500m and the 800m

Benjamin, Lewis, Lucas, Lincoln, and Lucas - 12/13-year-old Relay

Yarning Circle

For those who may have not been up to school the ‘Yarning Circle’ garden and seating area is well under construction. Teachers are looking forward to being able to utilise this outdoor classroom area. Students will also be able to enjoy this quiet area during recess and lunchtime for reading playing games or just having a chat.

Family Success

It was a family affair at the recent Taekwondo National Championships in Adelaide. After Julian in Year 3 won state selection in the Blue Belt division of the State Taekwondo Championships he competed in two matches at the national titles winning him the Bronze Medal at the National Championships. His success is attributed to all his hard work, practising the necessary skills and of course his passion for the sport. Congratulations to Julian’s dad too who won two gold medals at the National Championships.

Finally, rehearsals are in full swing for our upcoming school musical ‘Circus Splendida’. The students and staff have been working hard over several months to ensure that the production will be an experience to remember. For all our wonderful performers we want to make sure the audience is electric, the venue is first class so please make sure you get your tickets.

Have a great fortnight.
