Grade 2 Capacity Lesson

The Grade 2 students explored the concept of capacity through hands-on activities using water, sand, rice, and bark.
Enjoying the sunshine outdoors, they worked in small groups to investigate how many scoops of each material it took to fill different sized and shaped containers.
Students carefully counted and compared their results, noticing that some materials took more scoops than others because of the way they filled the space. They recorded their findings and discussed why the number of scoops may have been different and developed their understanding of measurement and estimation through practical exploration.
