Year 1

Welcome to this fortnight's newsletter!

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year 1, with students enjoying learning about the water cycle through a range of hands-on investigations. They’ve shown great curiosity as they explore how water moves through different stages and why it’s so essential to our world. We’re proud of the enthusiasm they continue to bring to their learning each day. In this edition, you’ll find updates on our current learning focuses, upcoming events, and important reminders for the weeks ahead.

Shoeboxes and Jars needed!

Just a reminder to support our planned activities, we ask that each student brings a shoebox (or similar box) and a 300–500ml glass jar with a secure lid by Wednesday 5th November. These items will be essential for our experiments and projects.

Footsteps

Our Year 1 students have enjoyed their first Footsteps dance session, moving their bodies to the beat and showing great enthusiasm as they tried new dance moves. It’s been wonderful to see everyone using a growth mindset and giving each movement a go! A reminder that the Year 1 session begins promptly on Wednesday mornings in the stadium, so please ensure your child arrives on time and ready to dance.

Parent Helpers Needed – CERES Excursion

We are still looking for parent helpers to join us on our excursion to CERES on Thursday 21st November. If you are available to help, please email your child’s classroom teacher to express your interest. All parent helpers are required to have a current Working With Children Check. Your support helps make these experiences possible, and we would love to have you join us for a fun and educational day!

Planning for 2026

As we begin planning for next year, we will soon start looking at grade placements for 2026. If your child will not be returning to Vermont Primary School in 2026, please let us know. This information helps us ensure that all students are considered when classes are organised and that no one misses out on choosing a friend for next year. Thank you for your support in helping us with our planning.
