 Year 4

James Sadler (Team Leader), Eli Dahlenburg, Alistair Straughan, Vivian Nguyen

It has been a hectic start to the last term and we look forward to a 'long' weekend before hitting the home straight for the year. Congratulations to the Year 4 students who competed in Hoop Time this week, which you can read about on the Specialists page. If your child will be finishing at Vermont PS this year, please ensure you contact the school office and your child's teacher when you have details.

INQUIRY

This afternoon, Grade 4 students took part in an interactive virtual learning experience with Craig from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, all the way up in Townsville! Craig took questions from students and showed us some amazing footage, such as starfish and sea urchins eating! He was also impressed by the knowledge our students already had about the Reef.

MATHS

Students have been working hard building their Algebra skills, with a specific focus on number sequences. We have learnt how you can mix operations in sequences and even how to find a given term further along the sequence! Students have also been completing surveys to build their own graphs and to analyse the data that came from it.

WRITING

If your students have been asking you tricky questions lately and trying to get you to do things they want, it could be because of our work on persuasive writing. We have seen some excellent pieces of writing, including some amazing letters from kitchen appliances in the form of the book, 'The Day the Crayons Quit'.

LITERACY

Classes have been enjoying studying the book 'Wonder' and we are heading towards the climax. We have also been learning how to interpret graphic novels, and how authors use pictures, layout, font size and speech bubbles to convey their message.
