Summer Sport

The Rowville District Year 5 and 6 Summer Sports Round Robin was (finally) played on Monday 27 October after weather caused the competition to be washed out last term. Students have been training in their teams since the beginning of last term. I’ve been impressed with how quickly our students have picked up the skills and strategies of these sports, especially given that Handball, Softball, Volleyball, Tennis and Cricket are new sports for many of our students. I was also very pleased to hear of the high level of respect and sportsmanship shown during round robin from our students. It was great to see all students come back to school last Monday afternoon with smiles on their faces regardless of how their team went. For many of them, this was the last time they will represent Park Ridge at an interschool sports event. Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Softball teams who won the championship, and our boys tennis team who finished runner-up. As always, I’d like to thank the parent helpers at each event who made the day possible.

Junior Girls Future Stars

On Wednesday 29 October, our Junior Girls Future Stars team, the Park Ridge Raiders competed at the Regional Hoop Time Finals at State Basketball Centre. Our girls have been well trained by Miss Kelly in the lead up to the day, and were very excited to finally be playing again after winning their district competition back on May 26. We had a great start to the day, winning our 3 pool matches against Mount View, Rangeview and Upwey South. This booked us a spot in the finals with a spot in the State Championships up for grab. Unfortunately we went down by 6 points, but our team thoroughly enjoyed the day and came back to school with smiles on their faces. What a fantastic achievement to win 3 out of 4 matches at Regionals, especially considering half the team doesn’t play basketball outside of school. Congratulations to Kyah, Areet, Cassidy, Grace, Mackenzie, Ella and Lana on making it to the Regional finals. Thanks to Brett for coaching on the day.
