Assistant Principal - Curriculum

Assessment and Reporting
As we continue into the midpoint of Term 4, you may hear reports back from the classroom that your child may be completing assessments or tests. Assessment is a crucial part of the teaching and learning process, not only to gauge student understandings and achievement but to also adapt learning tasks to address the individual needs of students. Assessment can come in many different forms; it can be as simple as checklist recorded on a post-it note and as formal as a standardised test administered on a laptop. Having a range of these ongoing assessment tasks allows our teachers to gain a full picture of your child's learning and then in-turn effectively communicate it back to parents via our Semester Reports.
Semester 2 Reports will be made available to parents via Compass on Friday, 12 December. Student portfolios will also be sent home this day.
Mobile Devices
As per the Department of Education policy, students who bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours. All mobile phones must be signed in at the office each morning. This includes days where students are participating in an external event (sports, excursion) etc. If you need to contact your child for any reason, please call the school office on 9752 8555. Students are not permitted to take mobile devices with them when they are participating in school events. Any student who willingly takes a mobile device is in deliberate breach of the school’s Mobile Devices Policy, the School’s Digital Technology Acceptable Use Agreement and the Department of Education policy regarding mobile devices. Any student found willingly using a mobile device on a school external event may be asked to be collected by a parent/carer and will be unable to participate in the activity.
School Dress Code
It is an expectation that all students attend school events (excursions, sports days, etc) in full school uniform. This is clearly stated in the Compass event under the Dress Code section which may also give more detailed information (sports top, bathers etc).
The Student Dress Code aims to:
promote a sense of identity and pride, cohesion and good order in the school
allow all students to feel equal
prevent bullying and competition on the basis of clothing
ensure students’ appearance reflects the expectations of their school community
enhance the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community
strengthen the spirit of community within the school
enhance individual student safety and group security
ensure all students are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities
prepare students for the expectations of workplaces
encourage students to present themselves appropriately for a particular role.
Park Ridge Primary School understands that in exceptional circumstances, the school uniform may not be able to worn. If this is the case, please provide a signed note or a message on Compass to your child’s teacher.
Students willingly breaching the school dress code may not be permitted to represent the school at external events.
Kind regards,
Brendan Garvey
