News from the Rowing Sheds
Mr Andrew Pinelli, Rowing Coordinator
The weather has certainly not been kind to any of us, particularly in making the start of the rowing season enjoyable. The combination of cold, wind and rain has made it very challenging for our coaches and rowers to get out on the water. Fortunately, we have access to a well-equipped gym as part of the rowing club. It's been pleasing to have some more favourable weather recently, allowing our crews to return to training on the water.
Club Regatta 2
Our U16 and Open rowers spent last weekend down at Franklin competing in Club Regatta 2. This is a good opportunity for coaches to experiment with different crew combinations under race conditions. Unfortunately, some illness in the sheds meant a few rowers were unavailable. It was particularly rewarding to see several U15 rowers step in and perform exceptionally well, especially in the U17 and U19 doubles races. A further highlight, among many, was the first race for new U16 Rower, Myf Kemmis-Cole (Year 9), as well as the first race for the U16 eight crew. We are very proud of all the students who competed over the weekend.
Blessing of the Boats
This Thursday, all rowers will convene at the sheds for the annual Blessing of the Boats and announcement of the 2025/2026 Rowing Captains and Vice Captains. It is expected that all rowers will be in attendance. There will be a BBQ with sausages, burgers and drinks for sale before some information sessions about 'Injury Prevention with Kellie Wilkie' and 'Nutrition with Olivia Georgilopoulos'. All rowers and their families are strongly encouraged to attend this great opportunity.

Mini-Quad Regatta
This Saturday 8 November, SVC and SMC will be hosting several southern Tasmanian schools for the Mini-Quad Regatta. This will be a great opportunity for our junior rowers to gain valuable race experience ahead of the Schools Regatta 1 at Lake Barrington later in November. We'll also be running a canteen to support our fundraising efforts, so any extra supporters, both to cheer on our rowers and to assist with fundraising, would be greatly appreciated.
Point2Pinnacle
On Sunday 16 November, many of our rowers and their families will be volunteering at drink stations for the annual Point2Pinnacle. This is a fantastic community event that we're proud to support, and it also provides a valuable opportunity to raise much-needed funds for new equipment. We welcome anyone from the SMC community.
