Newlands Makes Basketball History!

Last week, our Newlands boys’ basketball team represented our school proudly at the Northern Metropolitan Region Finals — an incredible achievement, especially considering this is the first time Newlands has ever reached Region level in basketball!
The boys competed with great determination and teamwork throughout the day. After strong performances in the pool round, we advanced to the semi-finals against Montmorency South, where we fought in a very close game. We missed the win by only two points — and Montmorency South later went on to become the Regional Champions!
We then played Rosanna Golf Links for the 3rd and 4th position match. Again, the team played with huge heart and strong effort. We finished 4th overall in the entire Northern Metro Region, placing us among the best basketball schools in Melbourne’s north!
This journey has been inspiring from start to finish — strong teamwork and so many exciting matches. We are incredibly proud of our boys for the history they have made and the legacy they leave behind for future teams.
A massive congratulations to: Lenny, Paxton, Reuben, Charlie, Darcy, Freddie and Felix! You have shown what determination, resilience and school pride look like. You’ve made Newlands proud — and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
A huge thank you as well to all the families who helped throughout the season — coaching, scoring, driving to games, and filling the stadium with your energy and encouragement. Your support made a massive difference, and the team truly felt your belief in them every step of the way. This achievement is yours too!
¡Vamos Newlands! 💛💙
