Year 10 Theatre Studies In week 5 of Term 4, the Year 10 Theatre Studies class performed their class made production “Elephants Graveyard” to an audience of family and friends. For 15 weeks the students worked extremely hard within class to produce a full-length 50-minute play.

The performance is a true story set in 1916, where the tragic collision of a struggling circus and a tiny town in Tennessee meet. Elephant's Graveyard combines historical fact and legend, exploring the deep-seated American craving for spectacle, violence, and revenge.

The students in this performance all committed to the play by performing as a character, while also working in two in production roles - roles such as Costume Designer, Make Up Designer and Set Designer. The students were all self-efficient and created and sourced everything for the production themselves. The play was also directed by the very talented student Mia Barlow, who led rehearsals and created the performance vision for the group.

While the performance had its fair share of hiccups and mishaps leading up to the performance, the students rallied and showed resilience to overcome these challenges. As they say in showbiz “The Show Must Go On”. The performance itself, however, was a great success and achieved everything that the students had hoped to. It was well received by its audience and most were stunned by the skill displayed by the students. Overall, this was a great success and this cohort of students have set the standard very high for future students to follow.

Thank you to all who were involved in supporting the performers, as the show could not have done it without it.
