Food Studies

Term 4

Term 4 in Food Studies saw classes learn about the Design Process in detail with specifically creating their own dish.

Year 7 and 8 created designer muffins, putting their own spin on a muffin flavour. We had flavours like ginger and lemon, coconut and lime and a fan favourite in raspberry and white chocolate. The students were able to experiment with these flavours and use student agency in what they wanted to do.

Year 9 created a recipe from around the world where, in partners, they chose a country and from there worked their way through the design process to choose a recipe to cook and evaluate.

Finally with Year 10, students in pairs came up with (working through the steps of the design process) a recipe that reflected the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.

During this term, we also saw Year 10 plant some seedlings in our vegetable/herb garden, some of which are now flourishing.

Year 9 looked at sustainable seafood where they got to create

Shrimp Pasta and Fish Tacos whilst also learning about our oceans and what we can do to stop fish species from going extinct.

Additionally, Year 8 worked through Healthy Eating looking at salt, fruit and vegetables and takeaways and finished off with designing their own Fruit or Vegetable and creating a poster of the supply chain of that food (production, processing, distribution, and consumption).
