Duke of Edinburgh
On the 15th of November the year 9 Duke of Ed students conducted Health and Wellbeing activities for year 7s during lunch. The aim of the initiatives was to improve the year 7s' dimensions of health and wellbeing at school by engaging in a range of activities with their peers.
There were six different activities that took place on the day, including carnival games, continuous volleyball, Capture the Flag, Swedish Longball, Longest Kick and Basketball Knockout. In the weeks leading up, all groups promoted their activities to year 7 classes in the form of posters around the school.
My group's activity was the carnival games, which consisted of Cornhole (throwing bean bags into a wooded hole), Prize Pong (bounce the ball on the table and try and get it into the cups) Bowling and Dunk the Teacher. If you won the games, this equated to a certain number of tokens, year 7s were then able to spend their tokens at the Prize Stand.
Overall the activity was quite successful. We had a good number of people participating in the games and we opened up to year 8 and 9 students as well. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was a great way to help the year 7s meet new friends, have fun, play games and relax.
