Message from Principal Sarah

It’s been another whirlwind couple of weeks at NMPS, with a number of different events happening across the school.

Prep Transition 

Our 2024 Prep Transition sessions are in full swing with around 104 students attending last Friday. The new 2024 Prep team reported all students were really settled and enjoyed their first morning at North Melbourne Primary School.

Meet the Prep Team

We are excited to introduce our 2024 Prep team – Hilary Guymer (PLT Facilitator), Yolanda Andrews/Mollie McMahon, Bre Chapman, Jonny Mercer, Gladys Yun and Sarah Twaithes.

Upcoming Dates

Our next Transition session is this Friday 24th November, followed by two additional dates on Friday 8th December and Tuesday 12th December. We look forward to welcoming all 2024 Prep students back to NMPS on these dates.

Our Parents & Friends Association will be holding a Welcome morning tea for new Prep families on Friday 8th December, while the students are in their third transition session. Please refer to email updates for more information on this morning tea.

Year 3 Camp

This week we have sent our Year 3 students off to Forest Edge for their annual camp experience. Group 1 will return mid-week with Group 2 setting off. We know our Year 3 students will have a great time and look forward to finding out all about it in the next newsletter. 

Swimming Program

Our 2024 Swimming program will begin on Monday 27th November with our Prep to Year 3 students heading off to North Melbourne Pool for the week. Our Year 4 to Year 6 students will begin their swimming lessons on Monday 4th December for a week. 

Baby News

We would like to send our heartfelt congratulations and warm wishes to Ben and his wife, Claire, as they welcomed baby Tom Oliver into the world on 12/11/2023. We are excited to welcome yet another addition to our NMPS family. 

2024 Planning

Not Returning in 2024?

If you are not returning to NMPS in 2024 we need to know. Please contact the office ASAP as this impacts all 2024 planning. This does not refer to students who are currently in Year 6.

2024 Staffing & Whole School Transition Day

We know that parents/carers and students are always keen to see the teaching arrangements for the new school year, however in the current climate we are still working through our 2024 staffing profile. We hope to have this finalised in the upcoming weeks.

Students will have an opportunity to find out their 2024 teacher and class on our Whole School Transition Day on Tuesday 12th December. 

2024 Calendar Dates

Please find below the 2024 Victorian school term dates for your reference and planning.

• Term 1: 29 January (students start 30 January) to 28 March
• Term 2: 15 April to 28 June
• Term 3: 15 July to 20 September
• Term 4: 7 October to 20 December

North Melbourne Primary School will hold Pupil Free Days on the following dates:

• Friday 29 January
• Monday 15 April
• Monday 15 July
• Monday 4 November

Friday 23rd August will be a whole school Professional Practice Day where students are not required to attend school.
