Reading

This week the students are finishing off looking at Narrative texts. They are continuing to develop their fluency with their fluency pairs. During lessons we focus on creating a large brainstorm using our reading comprehension skills such as predictions, author's purpose, and visualising. This week we looked at a book based on a space trip to lead us up to the Space Dome Incursion on Friday!

Writing

In writing we are again finishing off looking at Narrative texts. On Monday we focus on looking at a Narrative prompt and the students practise writing a full story in the lead up to next year. On Tuesday we looked at using conjunctions in our writing. Which allows students to expand out their sentences with words like ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘or’, and ‘but’.  For the rest of the week we focused on building up our Narrative knowledge. The students compared different settings, used their 5 senses to describe a setting then planned, drafted and published a narrative of their choice.

Maths

This week in maths we are looking at location and transformation. We started off the week by looking at positions and using directional language such as right, left, above, below, and under. We then moved onto how we flip, slide and turn different objects and ended the week by learning about clockwise and anticlockwise turns. The students spent the week moving around a lot during lessons and learning time in order to visualise the movements. We also used lots of hands-on activities and manipulatives to assist us.

Celebrating Miss Thornton

On Monday all the students at Grayling went to the gym to celebrate Miss Thornton getting married. The grade 2’s had spent the last few weeks creating a beautiful wedding dress out of their hands as well as a book with all their marriage advice. The students and Miss Thornton had a fantastic time and we wish her all the best for her wedding on Saturday.
