10th November, 2023

Dear Parents, Carers, Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

What a stunning week we’ve had! As spring turns in to summer it is important that all children bring and wear a hat at school each day and apply sunscreen prior to commencement. Please encourage your child to reapply sunscreen throughout the day also.

Girls Softball

Congratulations goes to our Girls Regional Softball Team who won their competition this week and will now progress to the State level of competition. I am so proud of not only the achievement but also the sportsmanship and general conduct of this stunning team of young people who did our school proud.

Good Luck

Good luck to our NFL Flag competition team who fly out to the Gold Coast on Monday and will compete on Tuesday. I can’t wait to hear how you all go. What an opportunity to have an all expenses paid interstate trip. Thanks to Mr Runchey and Mrs Jenkins who will be accompanying the children and to the parents for their support of this fabulous team.

Baby Announcement

Congratulations to Mr Bolton and his lovely wife Josie who welcomed baby Reggie Maurice Bolton last night, measuring 52cm and 9lbs. Mum and bub are both doing well and we look forward to meeting him in the near future.

Staffing in 2024

We are so fortunate at our school to have a mix of staff to include gender balance and a variety of experience and expertise. I am pleased to share that Mrs Sue Grostate will be continuing her education journey here with us at Derinya. However, she will be reducing her time fraction to 0.6 next year and will be working in a specialist role. I would like to thank Mrs Grostate for her continued passion, commitment, and dedication to her role as a classroom teacher.

I am very excited to have Mrs Madison Runchey joining the team in year 4 replacing Mrs Hewitt who commenced family leave last week.

Next year we welcome three new staff members to include Ms Leah Clarke, Mr Spencer Daly and Ms Samantha Beard.

Sadly we will be saying farewell to Miss Caitlin Cruse who is taking some time to travel overseas. Caitlin has done an outstanding job both teaching year 6 and coaching and training our incredible HPV teams. I wish Caitlin the best of luck and thank her for her work as she embarks upon this adventure.

Mr Bolton is off to Korumburra Primary School who are lucky to be welcoming such an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to their team. Being a little closer to home will be handy as the Bolton’s have now become a family of 4! Many thanks goes to Mr Bolton for all that he has done for our students across his time with us.

Mr Lolait is also off to experience the world of travel and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his fabulous work this year in grade 1.

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend.
