Principal's Report

Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

THANK YOU!

It is great to be back at Fairvale PS after taking some extended leave at the beginning of the term. I thank Mrs Rosic, Miss Cassady and Miss Volpato for taking on various executive roles during this time. It is always a good feeling knowing that we have very capable staff members who can take on various roles at any time. Special thanks to Miss Fletcher for leading and managing the school as relieving Principal – she did a fantastic job!

REPEATED: 2024 ORGANISATION

We are currently organising class structures for 2024 and last week we sent home a note regarding family plans for 2024. If you are returning to Fairvale PS in 2024 you do not need to anything, however, if you are planning on leaving OR returning a little late then we need you to complete the note. If you would like to speak to someone about this, please contact the office.

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY 2023

It looks like teachers had a wonderful week celebrating World Teachers’ Day last week. As you know, we always turn this into a week of celebrating and this year was no different. I am positive the teachers appreciated all the little surprises along the way.  It was also great that Frankie surprised the teachers again this year with some Frankie stickers. Thank you to everyone for making the week a special one; teaching is the best job in the world, and it is always a privilege to work alongside our amazing teachers at Fairvale PS who inspire a love for learning and provide unwavering support to help students reach their full potential. Hats off to all our teachers!

BIKE VISITS WITH MISS FLETCHER

Miss Fletcher visited 2 classes during Week 3.

K Cradle Mountain – In my visit to KC, Mr Carbone, Mr Ali and KC were learning onomatopoeia. A student, Elbron in KC explained to me that onomatopoeia is a word that names a sound but also sounds like that sound, I was very impressed! The students were learning about the word 'BOOM' by pounding and hitting drums. There were lots of BOOM sounds coming from the drums as they were hitting them! Next the students worked on writing using the word BOOM!

2 Dooragan – During my visit to 2D, I joined in with a lesson on time. The students were using small clock to make the time, then the drew a clock in their maths books and wrote the time. After the lesson we discussed all the things they knew about time. 2D students taught me that the word O'clock comes from ancient times when people said "what is the time on the clock?" So, the word was shortened to “O'clock” instead of “on the clock”!

eSAFETY NEWS

People usually know how to keep themselves safe offline, but it's not always the case when we go online. In our latest initiative, we compare online safety to everyday objects that keep you safe – just like eSafety does when you go online.

When it comes to online safety, we can help. We educate Australians about online safety risks and help to remove harmful content such as cyberbullying of children and young people, adult cyber abuseimage-based abuse and illegal and restricted content.

The eSafety Commissioner can support with:

Investigating reports of serious online harm and help with removal of this content.

Have a great fortnight,

Anthony Pitt

Selective high school applications opening

Selective high school Year 7 entry in 2025—open 9 October to 20 November 2023.

Selective high schools provide a learning environment designed for academically gifted and high potential students.

They help students learn by:

 • grouping them with other gifted students

• using specialised teaching methods so students can learn at a quicker pace and in more detail

• supporting their unique wellbeing needs.

Most students in selective high schools enjoy learning more when their classmates have similar abilities and interests. Research shows that students benefit both academically and socially from the learning environment in selective high schools. Selective high schools are unzoned so you can apply no matter where you live.

The application process:

Complete the online application https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7/information-for-applicants

Applications close on 20 November 2023.

Once the application has been submitted and processed your child will be allocated to a test centre to sit the Selective High School Placement Test on 9 May 2024. Selective high school places are offered based on students’ test performance (academic merit).
