Year 10 to 12

Year 12 Valedictory Dinner

On the Thursday 19 October, we celebrated our Year 12 students at the 2023 East Doncaster Secondary College Valedictory Dinner.  Held at Cathies Lane Receptions in Wantirna, this event was attended by over 400 parents, students, and teachers.

The efforts of all Year 12 students were acknowledged with the presentation of their Year 12 Certificates. It was lovely to see the smiling faces of students as they were congratulated by Principal John Roberts and had their achievements celebrated by family and friends.

Also recognised were those students who undertook an accelerated Year 12 subject or subjects in Year 11 in 2022 and received a score of 40 or above.

Congratulations to all our Subject award winners, whose teachers nominated them due to their academic achievements, consistent effort, and overall attitude to learning. A special mention goes to Samuel T who received four subject awards and Diana L, who received five subject awards! For both these students this equates to an award in each subject they studied in 2023. An amazing effort!

We were able to showcase the amazing talents of our music students with some fabulous performances throughout the night. The Year 12 Symphonic Band opened the evening with a rousing rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story; certainly, a fitting theme for this Year 12 cohort!

We were treated to a brilliant Cello solo from Samuel T, playing “All of Me” by John Legend, as well a beautiful duet from Belle S (Violin) and Priscella L (Keyboard), playing “Por Una Cabeza” by Carlos Gardel.

A big thank you to our official photographer Rob, who was able to capture some beautiful memories for our students and their families.

The night ended with students and parents cutting up the dance floor.

Thank you to all the staff involved in organising and running the night. Thank you to the teachers in attendance. Thank you to the parents for your support of the students through this challenging but rewarding year.

Year 10 Journalism Showcase

This year, EDSC has introduced a new semester based subject, Year 10 Journalism.

Throughout this area of study, students have been studying effective interviewing,  reporting and editing skills in order to create their own media texts (both newspapers and podcasts).

Sourcing interesting news stories from our local school community, one recent assessment task involved students speaking to various teachers and synthesising these interviews into engaging news and magazine stories. The newsletter will be highlighting some of these to showcase the impressive reporting skills of our students, in addition to learning more about our talented staff members.  Refer to the two below attached media reports.
