Words to Love By

This week in Together Time with God, we explored how words can be as 'sweet as honey', and bring life to others.  In the Bible we read from Proverbs 16:24.......

"Kind words are like honey - sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."

In reflection of this verse we can assume that the encouragement is for us to consider what words come from our mouths as they impact the health and wellbeing of others and ourselves. Even as adults, I am sure there are moments in our days where we wish the words that we spoke had been seasoned with a little more grace and love, and or maybe even not said at all.

For children this is a learnt skill and one that takes much time, patience and support to execute as our worlds are still very intrinsically motivated.

We took time this week to work through some 'words to live by'.  Words that can over 'sweetness like honey' to others worlds.  Maybe you might like to adopt some of this thinking in your home and model some of these phrases for your child?

  • I believe in you.
  • I am sorry.  What can I do to make this right between us?
  • I knew you could do it.
  • Well done, you did it.
  • I love the way you thought about (insert persons name) by doing (insert action)

As our children begin 'Come & Play' transition visits at Curiosity and the Big School, consider what words your child might need to hear to build their confidence as they move into this new season.

We pray for each child and their family as the weeks ahead are full of many wonderful experiences that may be met with some mixed feelings.  May God's grace and peace rest on each and everyone of us.
