From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

The end of Term 3 has certainly arrived quickly!

This term has been a whirlwind of achievement and activity for our students, with students shining in athletics, academics, music, performance and achieving personal goals. We are constantly reinforcing the importance of being your best and having personal goals to work towards, which is such an important part of this concept. Each time we reach a milestone in our journey to reaching our goals, it is important to celebrate the ‘wins’. Congratulations to all the students who have had their ‘wins’ this term!

Today the college was awash with colour and excitement as the students proudly displayed their favourite team colours. It was great to see a variety of teams represented. Josh Rachele was a big hit with the students. The SOI students were tuned into the stage area where Callum sat down in a one-on-one with Josh, fielding questions from the floor about the highs and lows of being a professional athlete and tips for those with aspirations for the future in this space. Josh was then welcomed very warmly by our SOW students, their cheers when watching footage of Josh kicking goals were very excited ones. A huge thanks to Josh for coming and sharing his time and to Kasey and Mia for organising Josh’s visit and Cal and Emma for supporting with the organisation.

Yesterday was our annual R U OK Day. I was in awe of the magnificent efforts of the VCE VM Personal Development Skills class who prepared for the event so thoroughly, they built resources, decorated and cooked the BBQ. They were supported greatly in this process by the amazing Wellbeing Team, particularly their teacher Meredith Lia. The day was an opportunity to ask the question Are you Ok? to give people the skills and scripts to be able to have the conversation to support people in their social networks. The students learnt to use the following four actions to support someone who may be struggling with their mental health and wellbeing:

     1. Ask are you ok?

     2. Listen

     3. Encourage Action

     4. Check In

I hope that you all have a wonderful term holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, October 2.
