Holy Communion Parish Program

Thank you to all the Year 3 families for enrolling in the Holy Communion Parish Program. It was wonderful to see so many attending the sessions. It was a little exciting and mysterious (as in dark!) in the Little Chapel where my Holy Communion group met for the first session but it set the tone for a rich and rewarding lesson discussing family celebrations, Church celebrations and the parts of the Mass.

Thank you to the parents who shared stories and knowledge with the group. The last session last night was even better and I feel all students are well prepared to receive Jesus for the first time. I will be attending the Saturday First Communion Masses and I look forward to seeing those who will also be attending on these days.

Bread for Families

Is there ever anything so delicious and nourishing as freshly baked bread?

In almost every culture, a variant of bread is a staple food. In the time of Jesus, bread was already established as a foundation in their diet and had a rich theological history.

Bread featured in the Exodus story, this time as unleavened bread – that is, unrisen bread, or flat bread. The story tells us that there simply wasn’t time for the bread to rise as the Passover meal was eaten in haste.

That the text takes time to emphasise that the bread must be unleavened, implies that bread was already an important part of the Israelites’ diet and liturgy. And indeed, to this day, the Sabbath is celebrated with bread and wine.

The traditional bread used for Sabbath today is called ‘challah’ and bakeries often only bake it on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s a soft, rich bread, made with eggs and milk and platted so that it can be torn easily, making it a little complicated for novice bakers without a lot of time. However, it is delicious and you should definitely try some if you see it in your local bakery.

Year 12 - De La Salle HSC Students

Thank you to the OLF families who have volunteered to write a prayer of support and encouragement for a Year 12 student at De La Salle College Cronulla. I needed a box of tissues to read them! So beautifully written. It is now time to return the prayer card as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

Fatima Friends

Fatima Friends turned into Superheroes two weeks ago! We read a great book about Superhero Bunnies and then made superhero masks. Last Friday we had free play fun with our new friends. On Friday 25th August Fatima Friends, babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers dressed as their favourite book characters and participated in the Book Week Parade. Photos will be published in the next newsletter!

Pre-schoolers, toddlers and babies with their parents or carers are all welcome to Friday Fatima Friends at 9.10am after Prayer Assembly.
