Lifestyle, PDHPE & Sport

Year 12 PDHPE were lucky enough to have ex-student Jasmine Whitelaw provide some expert knowledge during our Sport Medicine unit of work. Jasmine outlined her role as a Physiotherapist in a practice as well as her experience as a physiotherapist with several elite sporting teams such as Newcastle Knights, (2019/2020) Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership (2019-2022) Gold Coast Titans (2022) Australian Jillaroos and (2022) Macquarie Scorpions (currently). Our Yr 12 PDHPE students were provided with a hands-on workshop on sports taping from Jasmine. We thank Jasmine for her time and expert knowledge!

Netball and Basketball Female Squads

Thanks to Fit 4 Kids for working with our Netball and Basketball S.P.O.R.T Squads on a strength and conditioning program as part of our Extra Curricular Training sessions. The girls were provided with fun fitness ideas to improve their core body strength and overall fitness.

Soccer

Our U16 Boys Soccer S.P.O.R.T Squad have been participating in a newly formed Soccer competition.

The ‘Col Whitney Cup’ is named after a legend of schools football Col Whitney who was a teacher and coach of Booragul High School (now Lake Macquarie High School) Tasman Cup teams in the era from the late 1960’s to the early 1980’s in which the famous Tasman Cup competition was played and where crowds of many thousands regularly packed Macquarie Field Speers Point in particular to attend Tasman Cup games. We thank Geoff Finch from Advance Football for extended KKHS an invitation to compete in the competition. Advance Football have previously worked with our Soccer S.P.O.R.T Squads during extra curricular training sessions and have been impressed to see the overall improvement in our student's skill levels.   Thanks also to our sponsor for Rep Soccer, Jason Reading Landscapes

Netball

Our netball squad members have been busy this term competing at the NSW Schools Cup in Singleton and the Under 15’s gala day in Maitland. All teams had a fun and successful day with our Under 15 boys going through undefeated at the Coalfields gala day. Netball is growing in popularity which has been developed throughout the year through participation in the extra curricular training sessions. Coaches have noticed a remarkable improvement in not only players basic skills but more importantly their confidence and self esteem. Thanks to our sponsor,  Flannagan's Menswear for supporting our Rep Netball.

Not only are players representing the school at gala days as players, but the following students were brave enough to volunteer to help local primary schools by umpiring for their teams throughout the day. Well done to Emilee Hedges, Milla Parker, Eliza Summerville and Keeliah Ridley for being great S.P.O.R.T Ambassadors!

Basketball

Our U15’s Boys team competed in the CHS Knockout competition playing Morisset High School. We were outmatched size wise and Morisset held a strong lead at half time. By ¾ time we launched  comeback, coming back from being 18 down to 7 down. Despite the strong comeback, we unfortunately went down 40 to 27. Mr Berry reports the team showed a strong foundation for future competitions.  We are sure our Rep Basketball sponsors - Domino's KK and Ability Options would be proud!

Rugby League

Our U16’s Rugby League is back on the field! For many years we have not been able to field a team in this age group and the boys proved to be great representatives for KKHS! A loss to St Pius X (overall winners of the day) and a hard fought win against Morisset High were results to be proud of!
