Miss Mcfarlane and Miss Jones also assisted to the success of the morning by making coffees and hot chocolate’s for all staff at KKHS.
Year 12 are thankful for all that they have been given throughout their schooling and wanted to show staff how thankful they are.
Year 11
This term Year 11 BPA have delved into all thing’s resistance training as a part of their Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation program. The group developed their own training programs designed to improve either muscular strength, endurance or power.
The goal for this unit of work in big picture is for students to develop long-lasting healthy habits that will only have a positive impact on their own physical and mental health. As I walked around the gym during our training sessions, students were committed to their training programs whilst also having a great time with friends.
iGym staff mentioned how well the Big Picture group conducted themselves, putting equipment back, wiping down equipment and always saying thank you on their way out. Well done on a successful unit guys!
Year 10
This term Big Picture students enjoyed an excursion to Stockton beach. The out-learning provided our students with a hands-on learning experience that deepens their understanding of the world around us. The Stockton beach excursion allowed our students to explore the issue of erosion. Students investigated causes, and consequences of human induced environmental change at Stockton Beach. They Engaged in hands-on activities to better understand the forces at play in erosion.
This term Year 10 Big Picture students presented their exhibitions. As their Advisor I was very impressed with the quality and diversity of our students’ presentations. In Big Picture students are empowered to make choices to learn about what they are most passionate about. Some of our students' exhibitions included childcare, computer applications, event management, motorcycle racing and researching the impacts of Dementia. Students were able to translate knowledge into engaging, informative project exhibitions. These experiences not only enhance their academic growth but also equip them with essential life skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
Year 9
The Year 9 Big Picture advisory have been working on their social action project about Sustainable Oceans in terms 2 and 3. We have delved into the problems that our ocean ecosystems and marine wildlife are currently experiencing. We began by participating in an Education Perfect challenge on Sustainable Oceans, whereby we
came 55th overall from over 200 schools across Australia. This then evolved into the students considering what they could do about this issue. Working collaboratively, the Year 9 Advisory decided that they would like to do a beach clean-up day. To fund our excursion and raise awareness of the issues our oceans are facing, the Year 9 Advisory cooked a BBQ and decorated cupcakes with marine life designs, which they sold at the KKHS soccer grand final. This event raised enough money to fund the beach clean-up day, which will run in Term 4.
Term 3 also saw the Year 9 Big Picture advisory complete their second ever exhibition where Mrs Edwards was very impressed by the effort put into students’ online portfolios and the increased confidence of students to speak in front of larger groups. The student’s showcased projects which included creating your own online business, investigating the career of midwifery, an investigation into the science of creating candles, and an exploration of the concepts and skills that one student had learnt as part of their learning through internship experiences at a local mechanics. Big Picture provides students with the opportunities to explore their own passions and interests and look forward to seeing what these Year 9 students will investigate next!
