Drawing and Painting
Throughout the year the children have been exploring what they can do with the painting and drawing resources that we have set up in our learning environment. I wanted to mention here that all children have to experiment and play curiously with paint and pencils to see what these can be used for. In time the children gain more control of the pencils, brushes and paints and start to create more recognisable images.
At Oak Flats Public School Preschool, the children have been creating wonderful pictures recently with not only pencils and paint but with natural items and technology. As you would expect the children are at differing stages of development for drawing, which is very typical in the preschool years. As educators we aim to support and extend the children's learning. This is done through praise and encouragement for all of the children's efforts.
We also support them through questioning or guiding them to have a go and by breaking down what they are drawing into shapes. Using technology has provided a great way for the children to build upon their drawing skills and creativity. The children have been experimenting with the Paint app on the Commbox. This has been really interesting to watch as the children freely create with colour, shape, line and the painting and drawing tools. It is also important for us to recognise the creativity and skill that young children put into their building, as this is another way of exploring ways of making.
