Dear parents, carers and community
Congratulations to our Tournament of Minds team - Adelle, Logan, Sophie, Scarlett, Archie, Lara and Sienna, who represented our school at the University of Wollongong on Sunday and will now proceed to the State Final. Their prepared presentation, as well as their spontaneous challenge, was a true reflection of the hard work they have put in over the past term, as well as the hard work, guidance and support from Ms Higgins. Congratulations to all involved and we wish you the best of luck at the State final.
Wishing our Southern Stars performers and staff the very best for Show Week. We are so proud of their dedication and effort so far, and hope they enjoy the opportunity to shine. Thank you to our staff, Mrs Hudson, Miss Walker-Lau, Miss Ford and Mr Herzog, for their work preparing these students and spending their evenings and weekend going above and beyond to provide this opportunity for our students. We must also acknowledge and thank the parents and carers for your support and transport to and from practices and the show. I know your children will remember this experience!
We invite all parents and carers of students who are beginning Kindergarten in 2024 to an information evening on Tuesday 5 September, starting at 6.30pm. During this session you will meet some staff, and find out about our orientation sessions, Best Start Assessment and important information that can help you to support your child to transition to ‘big school’. We look forward to welcoming new and returning families
Oak Flats Public School, in conjunction with the Oak Flats Public School P&C, is delighted to announce that we will be holding a Spring Festival on Friday 15 September 2023, from 12pm until 4pm. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students, staff, families and the community to come together for a fun and memorable event.
Information will continue to be shared via our main platforms, including Facebook, newsletters and e-News, so keep an eye out.
UNLIMITED RIDES PASS - Unlimited rides passes are now available through the QKR app. All carnival rides will be supplied and safely operated by Fosters Carnival Amusements. All rides are fully covered by Public Liability Insurance, comply with Australian Safety Standards and are inspected annually by qualified structural and electrical engineers.
By purchasing an ‘unlimited rides pass’, your child has access to 5 carnival rides:
ART COMPETITION - We will be running a "Flower Frenzy" art competition with artworks displayed at the Spring Festival. Prizes, generously donated by the P&C, will be awarded to the winner and highly commended in each stage for each category on the day. Students may enter as many categories as the like and as many times as they wish. Cost per entry is $1.00.
Information has been brought to our attention, informing us of parent feedback in regard to events at our school, specifically a book character parade. I want to assure you a lot of thought and planning goes into our extra-curricular events and opportunities we provide our students and community, including the impact on teaching and learning, other school commitments, and the potential constraints and impacts on families. Historically, our school has only held a book week parade every second year, however we apologise about not clearly communicating this in advance, causing some confusion to families.
If you have purchased costumes for your child, assuming we would be having a parade, these won’t go to waste. We will share information in the coming weeks about celebrating a love of books in Term 4.
If you have any questions or feedback, please always speak with your child’s teacher so they can clarify information or pass on your questions or concerns to the appropriate person. Alternatively, our P&C meetings are a great way to have input into our school decision making processes.
Kind regards
Jodi Niedermayer
