Outdoor Education Trees Adventure

On Wednesday 9 August, 54 Year 9 students studying Outdoor Education explored Treetops Adventure in Belgrave to complete a high ropes course. Students were harnessed for three hours where they could explore the various courses, ranging from ziplines, to giant drops and obstacle courses. In class students will complete their Journal reflection on the activity where they will explore the Indigenous tribe of Belgrave, flora and fauna within the area, as well as how to assess risk and how to personally challenge oneself. A big congratulations to all who attended and challenged their fear of heights.

Outdoor Education Lake Mountain Camp

The Year 11 students studying Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies completed their final camp for the year. Exploring Lake Mountain was well timed with the class having just studied the impacts of Climate Change on both society and environments. Students were able to see first-hand the impacts of increasing temperatures as there was no natural snow on the Mountain when the class visited due to temperatures being 5 degrees on the Wednesday and 10 degrees on the Thursday.

The weather didn’t stop the Year 11s from having fun on their final camp, they were able to complete a Cross Country Ski lesson as well as Toboggan the slopes. Students also studied the impact of bushfires on the local community of Marysville where they stayed, as well as viewing the Fire Museum and Stevenson Falls. Students also explored Maroondah Reservoir where they were able to see where Melbourne’s Water Supply comes from. This links well with students current studies. The class has two more SAC’s to complete along with their final Exam, good luck to everyone and keep up the hard work.
