Primary Sport

Despite the looming threat of clouds and persistent rainfall, the unwavering enthusiasm of our formidable team of 50 athletes from Andrews Cup remained unshaken as they embarked on their journey to the Andrews Cup Athletics competition held on Thursday 17 August at QSAC. The Athletics Competition is the last of the core sports and biggest event on the Andrews Cup calendar. A convergence of over 800 students hailing from the consortium's 10 member schools took place at QSAC, permeating the air with school spirit, echoing school chants, and collectively raising the decibels of both the cheers and the competitive fervour on the track and in the field.

The team established their presence, radiating a formidable energy in their endeavours both on and off the track. Their collective support echoed through events like High Jump, Relay and the 100m sprint, serving as a driving force for their fellow schoolmates. Throughout the day, the overarching goal was to aim for a personal best.

It is with immense pride that I share the news that out of the 50 participating students, an impressive 42 achieved personal bests, a testament to their training and effort.

This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy considering the circumstances of the day. Many of the students had to step up and compete in higher age divisions, participate in additional races and field events due to the team members being affected by illnesses and injuries. Their collective effort was nothing short of remarkable, garnering admiration from the coaching staff.

Securing the 4th position in the Percentage Cup stands as a well-deserved culmination of weeks of rigorous training, persistence, and a resolute display of determination.

I extend congratulations to all the students, with special recognition reserved for our four outstanding representatives in the Sue Pavish Cup Relay event: Vera Chung, Lainey Madders, Sophie Morizet-Morales and T’ea Sherman. Additionally, a commendation is due to Lainey Madders, who clinched the second spot in both the 80m and 200m events, thereby earning two coveted Andrews Cup Ribbons.

Anticipation builds for the upcoming end-of-Term Sports Assembly, an occasion that will once again provide us with the chance to celebrate, acknowledge and reward the exceptional contributions of both the team and individuals alike.
