Healesville Sanctuary

Year 11 Science

On Thursday 5 September, the Year 11 Biology and Environmental Science students visited Healesville Sanctuary.  Their primary goal was to collect data for an upcoming assessment.

The day involved two presentations looking at the adaptations of various native Australian animals, in particular the Koala and Emu.  Who knew that the  koala's coat is not just to keep it warm, but is also water repellent?!

After a presentation, there was time for the Spirit of the Sky flight show, with the highlight being the Wedge-tailed Eagle.

Students then spent their time exploring the rest of the sanctuary, with a focus on adaptions, behaviours and the conservation efforts of the Tasmanian Devil.
