Eastern Regional Libraries - Realm and Croydon

  • What: Mini Olympics Obstacle Course Challenge!

Come along for some fun and challenge yourself, friends or family on Realm's Mini Olympics Obstacle Course.

After you have completed the obstacle course, you can make a medal to take home and celebrate getting your body moving!

When: Monday 23 September, 10am -12pm

  • What: Join the Circus!

Join the talented team at Ruccis to develop your fine motor skills through throwing, catching, spinning and twirling objects.

Try your hand at juggling, hula hoops, devil sticks, plate spinning, poi, scarves diablo and more.

This is a 2 hour workshop you won't want to miss.

When: Tuesday 24 September, 10am and 2pm

  • What: Dungeons and Dragons for Teens

Come play Dungeons & Dragons, the world-famous tabletop role-playing game!

In Dungeons & Dragons, players go on adventures, work together to overcome obstacles, and fight monsters in epic battles.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience levels. We hope to see you there!

  • What: Ping Pong Ball Roller Coaster Construction

Why should humans have all the fun? Use our craft materials to build a roller coaster full of twists and turns to give a ping pong ball the ride of it's life!

  • What: Harry Potter Drawing 101. 

Welcome to the magical world of drawing Harry Potter, his friends, magical objects, creatures or places.

Pop into Realm Library between 10am and 12 noon where you will be able to choose which character or creature you would like to draw. Become a Harry Potter inspired artist by following the step by step instructions. Let’s get drawing, and let the magic begin!

  • What: Aliens and UFOs Drop in Craft. Make your own flying saucer and fill it full of aliens and kooky creatures in this drop-in craft session.

  • What: Retro Game Coding. Learn the basics of game design by using block coding to design a retro arcade game.

Our Retro MakeCode Arcade Game Consoles by Elecfreak are the perfect way to introduce kids to coding - by letting them make and play their own retro video game!

  • What: Masking Tape Art . Drawing inspiration from the current exhibition at Realm - Euphoria, we will transform a blank page with colorful paint and masking tape to create a piece of geometric art. Create the paintings by marking off sections using masking tape before painting over the tape then removing it to reveal the amazing patterns you have made. You will also get the opportunity to meet the artist behind the Euphoria exhibition.

  • What: Mend it workshop. Do you have a garment that needs mending? Do you want to learn how to mend your own clothing?

Come along join our family friendly mending circle to learn tips and tricks to mending your own garments. Jodie from A Fitting Connection will prove to you it’s not hard and no previous sewing skills are required, just your willingness to learn a new skill.

  • What: Pet Rocks Rule! Create your very own pet rock, as we celebrate Active Kids, Healthy Minds Maroondah.

Pet rocks can teach us a lot about responsibility, patience, and the rewards of caring for something, and they can be a great tool for mindfulness. With their creative and DIY aspect, pet rocks can be a great way to express creativity and have fun with family and friends.

  • What: Magic show with Em Chandler. Join award-winning magician Em Chandler for 45 minutes of magic, story, and silliness!

What: Join us for a fun filled family day to help improve health and wellbeing! Physical activity improves both body and brain health and helps build resilience. Enjoy a free outdoor multi-station activity event during the school holidays, have fun spending time together as a family and help build active families in Maroondah.

Story Writing Competition

Pawsome Stories Writing Competition is back for 2024!

Have you got a pawsome story to tell? Put pen to paper for a kinder future for animals. Our popular primary school writing competition back with an Olympic flair!

 

TO ENTER:

If you’re in grades 3-6, we want to hear from you! Share your one-page story and show animals you care in one of the following 2024 categories:

  • Fiction: My pet is a secret Olympian
  • Non-fiction: How animals make our lives better

Length: For handwritten, one double sided A4 paper, for typed, one page with size 12 font. 

Deadline: Monday, 7 October 2024

How to enter: submit your story below or by visiting rspcavic.org/pawsome-stories 

Parents/guardians can submit on behalf of individual students, or teachers may enter their whole class.

PRIZES: 

All submissions will be in the running for some a-meow-zing prizes!  

  • Student entries, you and a friend could win a unique animal education experience.
  • Teacher entries, your class could win a unique animal education experience! 
  • For winners, we have a prize pack including Dymocks vouchers, trophies and toys.
  • Plus, finalists will be invited to our award ceremony happening Thursday, 21 November! 

Entries will be judged by a guest judging panel that will be announced soon.

School Drop Off Time & Late Passes

For safety reasons, we kindly ask that students are not dropped off or picked up from within the staff car park. Please use the 'Kiss & Go' area or other suitable safe parking areas on the street.

 

Students arriving after 9.00am must be accompanied by their parent/carer and signed in at the office.  Please sign them in on the kiosk, where a late pass will print out they take to their teacher.  

Apples & Pears for Purchase 🍏🍎🍐

Purchase of apples and pears will no longer be through the office.  Chris will advise us if he will have a 'direct from truck' here on the school grounds, similar to our coffee van arrangement, in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for those dates.
