Wow, time flies when you’re having fun. It’s been a very busy Term as we have been preparing and working on some more art projects for our annual Art Show.

More information to follow. All year levels are working extremely hard and producing outstanding work. We cannot wait to showcase their amazing talent and beautiful art creations.

Senior School Art Room

The Grade 2 children have been exploring the use of ink, watercolours and pastels when designing a monster cityscape! The students were inspired by the picture book “Monsters Don’t Eat Broccoli” and they created their own city scape, learning about how to paint windows to make them glow like a real city. The result is magical.

In Grade 3 we have been looking at still life artworks by Dutch painter Rachael Ruysch and Italian painter Georgio Morandi. We studied how to paint and shade pieces of fruit and flowers, then put them together to make a beautiful busy still lifes in the style of Ruysch. The result is striking and the students really enjoyed drawing realistic fruit!

Grade 4 have been exploring the life and works of American artist Alexander Calder. The students learnt he invented the very first mobile! We drew some fish designs in Calder style and transformed our fish designs into real wire fish with beads and coloured wire. Calder would be very impressed with the finished products.

Grade 5 have looked at collage artists including Eileen Downes, who uses ripped paper for her collages. The students designed and transformed their ideas into ripped paper collages. This task requires stamina and perseverance and you can see how hard the students have worked. Well done grade 5s!

In Grade 6 the children are learning about the fundamentals of drawing a human face. We have explored the proportions of the face including where all the features and placed to make the face look realistic. The students have been incredibly diligent this term and the work shows how much they have learned about drawing and shading. I’m very proud of the Grade 6 students.

Junior School Art Room

During Term 3 the Prep and Grade 1 students have worked hard to produce amazing pieces of artworks.

Prep children have begun to experiment with a variety of different mediums and have used them to create three fun pieces of artwork. One, inspired by the Australian artist Anna Blatman. Passionate about colours, she is known for creating harmonious paintings that have the power to bring happiness to any home. I hope that your children’s artwork brings that joy into your homes. Her artistic talent encouraged them to create their own inspired bird artwork.

The Preps then went on to create another bird inspired artwork. The bird we chose was the good old Australian native seagull which we love and adore on our beautiful Australian beaches. They used many techniques to create this masterpiece. This project was a lot of fun, and the final pieces look amazing. Their last piece of artwork for this term was a sculpture. The Prep students used magic model clay and plasticine. They are an art teacher's dream. I’m so proud of how hard they worked to create these. They turned out superb!

In Grade 1 children have also been working hard. They also worked on a sculpture piece. The students made a fish using clay, painted it with metallic watercolour paints and completed their fish sculpture by decorating it with colourful coral made from pipe cleaners and straw. These look fabulous. I love every one of them. They are certainly a show stopping piece.

The Grade 1 students have also drawn and painted pictures of fish of their choice. Next term, we will begin creating our portfolio pieces. We are looking forward to a very colourful and busy term ahead. We can’t wait to share our masterpieces at our Annual Art Show.
