Term 2 Wrap-Up

As we reach the conclusion of another term, I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Clayfield College Leadership Team, staff, coaches, students, and parents for their invaluable contributions to what has been an exceptionally successful term of Sport and Activities.

To our outstanding students, I commend you for your dedication, resilience, and adaptability throughout the term. Your positive approach to sport, thirst for improvement, and boundless enjoyment have been truly remarkable. You have embraced every opportunity and triumphed over challenges.

Amidst the bustling term, I was delighted by the overwhelming attendance of support at fixtures and events. The support shown at QGSSSA Championships, Andrews Cup, Britton Shield and Club events was outstanding. My sincere congratulations go to our sport captains, respective sport leaders, the Croc Squad and Clayton the Croc for their outstanding efforts. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our boarding students for their active involvement in supporting CC Sport programs week after week.

To our dedicated coaches, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your tireless efforts in guiding our students towards reaching their full potential. The commitment displayed by CC Sport coaches in ensuring that every student feels supported is commendable, and their enthusiasm for providing high-quality programs has not gone unnoticed. Their passion and unwavering dedication have played a pivotal role in driving personal, and CC Sport progress throughout Semester 1. I wish them a well-deserved and restful vacation.

Lastly, I would like to express my deep appreciation to the parents. Your dedication to your child's sporting journey through support, encouragement, and active participation has made a significant impact. Your involvement strengthens our community and empowers CC Sport and its students to thrive.

After an extremely busy Semester 1 and a frenetic term, I wish everyone an enjoyable, safe, and relaxing holiday. I look forward to welcoming you back in Semester 2.

Primary Sport

On Tuesday 11 June, the highly anticipated Primary Interhouse Athletics Carnival took place at Bowden Park, Geebung. It turned out to be a fantastic day, filled with strong spirit and enthusiasm. The event provided every student with the opportunity to participate in various Track and Field events, such as the 100m, 200m, High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put.

The students competed with unwavering determination, showcasing their talent and athletic prowess. To keep them fuelled and energised, everyone enjoyed the always popular 'Sno-cones,' which gave them that extra boost to cross the finish line, jump higher, and throw further.

The atmosphere was charged with energy, cheers, and encouragement from all students, motivating each other to excel for their respective Houses. This year's competition included new events: the 100m Championship race, featuring the eight fastest boys and girls, and the thrilling all age relay.

We extend our gratitude to all the staff and coaches for their efforts in ensuring the smooth running of the competition and providing excellent guidance and support throughout the day.

Among the standout performers were three young athletes who each claimed first place in four out of their five nominated events, showcasing their love for athletics.

  • Samuel Gordan (8 years and under boys)
  • Grace Hunter (11 years girls)
  • Lucas Zhuang (12 years and over boys)

We eagerly anticipate the announcement of the overall results at the Primary assembly, and the outstanding achievements of our Age Champions will be acknowledged at assembly in Term 3.

Boys' Sports - Highlights

The boys' BBI Club Basketball teams are lighting up the courts, with the U15 and U13 squads showcasing a blend improved skills and disciplined play that has captured the attention of our school community.

The U15 team, currently sitting second on the ladder, has been nothing short of impressive. The team has exhibited a mix of offensive prowess and defensive tenacity. Their chemistry on the floor is evident, translating into plays and clutch performances.

Coach Mitch Hayward attributes their success to a consistent training regimen and a focus on fundamentals. “These boys have put in the hard yards, and it’s showing in their game,” Hayward said. “Our defence has been solid, and offensively, we’ve got players who can step up when it counts. The challenge now is to maintain this momentum and aim for the top spot.”

Meanwhile, the U13 team is carving out their own path with a spirited campaign. Though younger and less experienced, these boys are demonstrating a commendable level of skill and sportsmanship. Their recent victory over a top-tier rival highlighted their potential and resilience.

As the season progresses, the U15 team have their eyes set on making the finals. For the U15s, the goal is clear: to climb to the top of the ladder and secure the championship. The U13s are focused on building on their success and gaining valuable experience.

With the boy’s dedication on display, the Winter season competition looks bright for the Clayfield College - BBI Club Basketball teams.
