From the Principal

As we reach the end of term it’s nice to reflect on the numerous achievements of Term 2 and the diverse opportunities for students outside their regular weekly learning program. Students have participated in different excursions and incursions, such as, Botanical Gardens (Year 1/2), Multicultural Infusion (Foundation and Year 3/4) and CERES (Foundation). In addition students have participated in the Victorian Dental Services, Interschool Sports, Student Leadership Summit, AFL Clinics, Student Voice Lunchtime Clubs, Mother’s Day Celebration, Education Week with a STEM focus, Twilight School, Biggest Morning Tea and the Year 3-6 Swimming Program which is currently in progress. Congratulations to all the students, and a big thank you to the families for their support in encouraging participation in the swimming program. A swimming program is vital for students as it not only teaches essential water safety skills but also promotes physical fitness, builds confidence in the water, and encourages a healthy lifestyle from an early age.

We have also had students achieve fantastic results in Cross Country this term. 35 students participated in our District team, 12 of whom finished in the top ten of their race to qualify for the Division event, and 2 Year 6 students, Trisha and Sienna, who finished top ten at the Division event to qualify for the Southern Metropolitan Regional event. Congratulations to all students who competed in Cross-Country and represented themselves and Athol Rd PS with outstanding effort and sportsmanship.

Additionally, the Year 5/6 students have their upcoming camp to Sovereign Hill next week. This camp is an important part of the Year 5/6 curriculum as it provides hands-on historical learning experiences, fosters independence and promotes team bonding in a unique educational setting. I look forward to hearing about their adventures upon their return.

I would also like to congratulate the Out of School Hours Care students for working together as a team and incorporating student voice to design and make the new OSHC garden sign. The students are now excited to research and plan the different herbs and vegetables to grow in the garden.

Our teachers have been busy writing mid-year reports which will be published on Sentral next week. Parent Teacher Interviews and Student Led Conferences will be held in Term 3, Week 2. Please ensure you have booked in your interview time by tomorrow the latest. Bookings close at 4pm Friday 21st June.
