Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Last Friday we celebrated Grandparents Day. Grandparents Day is celebrated to honour and recognise the invaluable role grandparents play in families and communities. It’s an opportunity to celebrate their contributions and show appreciation for their love and support.

"Grandparents are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories, and love." – Author Unknown

"A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend." – Author Unknown

"Grandparents, like heroes, are as necessary to a child’s growth as vitamins." – Joyce Allston

Here at St Patrick's we have our celebration to coincide with the Feast of St Anne and St Joachim. St Anne and St Joachim are the parents of the Virgin Mary and the grandparents of Jesus Christ. In the Christian tradition, they are honoured as the patron saints of grandparents. Their feast day is celebrated on July 26th. They serve as important figures symbolising the love, wisdom, and guidance that grandparents provide.

Grandparents Day in Australia, combined with the recognition of St Anne and St Joachim, creates a meaningful context for celebrating the spiritual and familial roles grandparents play. It’s a time to reflect on the nurturing and guiding influence of grandparents, much like the role St Anne and St Joachim had in raising Mary and contributing to the upbringing of Jesus.

Grandparents Day is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for the special people who have shaped our lives with their love and wisdom. Whether through heartfelt messages, quality time, or thoughtful gifts, making this day memorable for your grandparents is a beautiful way to honour their legacy and celebrate the bond that spans generations.

Wishing all our Grandparents and those who give so lovingly to our families and communities a wonderful Grandparents Day.

Leonie Burfield
