PMP in Foundation

This term, Foundation students participated in PMP (Perceptual Motor Program). This is a movement-based program which aims to develop children’s perceptions and understanding of how to move safely and appropriately in the space around them.

Throughout the term students have participated in activities to develop body awareness, spatial awareness, directional awareness as well as turn taking and co-operation.

We are grateful for our Foundation parents who helped us run the program. Your support was very helpful to ensure each small group of students had adequate guidance and instruction when completing each activity.

Narrative Writing Year 4

Over the course of Term 2, the Year 4s have worked tremendously hard to learn about the structure of narrative writing, along with key language features to use to capture the imagination of their readers.

We have worked on sizzling starts, character backfill, figurative language, character dialogue, and tightening the tension (amongst other things).

"Oi Merc,” shouted mum, croaky as a frog, “Get your butt downstairs!” He had stayed up so late last night watching the AFL that he almost flopped down the stairs. As he reached the bottom of the stairs, he was greeted by the thrilled sound of... “HAPPY 19th BIRTHDAY!”

Vivid balloons were scattered everywhere, and a banner made from colourful paper hung droopily from the ceiling with the words ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’ written on the front. Merc could clearly see that mum had made it because the letters were written in bubble writing as she always did for birthdays.

“Suprise!” yelled mum.

“So, Merc, how does it feel being 19?” asked grandpa.

Merc was still a bit confused, only now realising what today was so he just answered, “Um, yeah, I definitely feel older. For sure.” Grandpa rolled his eyes.

Grandpa still wanted to show affection, so he pulled Merc in and gave him a hug as his little white mustach tickled his cheek. When he had finished, his beady little eyes shone with joy.

“Open your presents!” called mum.

As Merc walked into the living room, he realised there was only one present wrapped up for him. Covered in the most colourful wrapping paper. It was only about the size of an ID card. With his heart leaping out of his chest, he waddled up to the little gift while mum and grandpa gleamed with a smile ear to ear.

Merc sat down and examined the present. He picked it up. He peeled of the sticky tape. He closed his eyes and tore of the wrapping paper. When he opened them, he discovered a little piece of laminated paper.

On it was a picture of a man skydiving.

“Mum; you...you're kidding me, right?!” asked Merc, struggling to sit still.

“Well, your grandpa and I think that with the amount of skydives you’ve done with an instructor, we agreed that you can finally do a solo dive!” replied mum.

“Yahoo!” yelled Merc “When is it?”

“Today,” answered grandpa “but-”

Grandpa could not even finish his sentence before Merc shot upstairs to get dressed.

He was going skydiving!

It only took him 10 minutes to get ready and hop onto his bike. He quickly pedalled out of 48 Darval Street and towards the skydiving station.

When Merc had finished pedalling, he leaned his bike up to the bike rack and spied the helicopter that he would be jumping out of. It felt like 1 million butterflies all spread their wings and started flapping in his stomach!

As Merc hopped onto the helicopter, it felt like all those butterflies' laid eggs in his stomach and he threw up, despite all the dives he had done with an instructor.

The chopper took off. Propellers spinning. He could feel see all the leaves around him run away from him and the piolet. It was truly beautiful, all the red, yellow, and orange spread out into a sort of circle shape, leaving an empty space around them.

“Ready for take-off son?” called the piolet from the cockpit.

“I think so.” replied Merc, his voice shaky and unsure.

As the chopper took off, Merc felt his stomach raise as the helicopter took off and quickly strapped up his seatbelt.

The ground was getting further and further away from Merc and the piolet.

No turning back now.

It had been an hour since the chopper took off and all was steady; they were now 3000 meters in the air and the sky was clear and blue, until...

“We’re running low on fuel!” screamed the piolet over the speeding blades.

“WHAT!” shouted Merc, “WHY DIDNT YOU CHECK BEFORE THE HELICOPTER TOOK OF!?”

“I was having my mourning break with tea and biscuits and the staff only told me that I was taking you last night just before we all left!” answered the piolet.

“We’ll just have to jump!” said Merc. He did not want to, but he was afraid he had to. The helicopters’ nose was tilting down towards the empty paddock below.

“Not ‘we’ll have to jump,’” called the piolet, “I’m jumping.”

Merc could not even give his opinion on this because the piolet had taken his parachute, strapped it to his body and jumped out.

Merc started swearing.

His mind was racing for ways to save himself from this crashing helicopter. He dived to the front in hope that there was one more parachute, but that greedy piolet had snatched the last one. He tried pulling the handle to lift the nose of the helicopter, but it was jammed.

WARNING! SPILLAGE IN THE ENGINE! IF NOT FIXED, HELICOPTER WILL EXPLODE!

OH NO! Merc only had 10 minutes to save himself or this helicopter would explode and burn him like a marshmallow dropped into the fire.

Merc checked for one more parachute just in case. Her checked under the seats and in all the draws but still found nothing. Nada. Zilch.

He waited until he was a bit lower to jump so he would not fall as hard as he would have if he had jumped a minute ago. Merc grabbed the only pair of goggles and put them on.

Merc had no more time left. He had to jump NOW!

Merc ran up to the door and took a leap of faith.

BOOM!!

The shockwave sent Merc about 5 meters to the side, and everything went quiet.

There was an eerie ring in his two ears, but he could not put his fingers in them because he had to keep his arms and legs out to reduce the amount of speed when he hit the grassy plain.

Mum and grandpa entered his mind. He thought about how much he would miss them when he was in heaven. Am I going to heaven? He questioned. He thought about all the good and bad he had done.

He thought about his best friend Tim and all the fun they had had together. All the naughty things they had done. All the time spent in the principal's office. When they had dropped out of high school together.

His eyes watered up.

Merc realised he did not want to let all that end.

TERMINAL VELOCITY!

He was now traveling 200 kilometres an hour. He had broken the sound boarder.

His ears stared popping.

1500 meters from the ground. They say your life flashes before your eyes when you're about to die. For Merc, it was a little pigeon.

1000 meters. He wondered if he would meet mum ang grandpa after they had died as well.

500 meters! He closed his eyes and stuck his arms and legs towards the ground. A broken arm or leg was better than collapsed lungs.

100 meters!! And...

SNAP!

“Aaaaaagggghhhh!!” Merc screamed in pain.

He was alive.

My Adventurous Journey

“Hi, my name is Tom and...” “TOM get packed were leaving soon” screeched mum “OK” I yelled.

Beep beep went the taxi. I ran down the stairs with my overflowing suitcase. Once I got in the taxi, I could smell a foul odor. “Eww” I muttered under my breath. I was sitting in the front seat and dad and mum were sitting with Jessi because there was no booster seat. I do not know if we are nearly there, it has been about 2 hours and lawn is 2 hours away, so I looked at the GPS and it said we were going to the skydiving airport. I let him know. “Excuse me sir were going to lawn not the sky diving airport?” “Your mum says we're going there” I turned around, and mum smiled innocently. She knows I hate heights but once mum decides what she is going to do there is no turning back.

Once we got to the sky diving airport, I was a nerves reck we had to wait for 3o minutes, so while Jessi and mum went shopping for sky diving gear I was thinking of the pros and cons of sky diving, I had a lot more cons than pro’s and then DING DING “the Robenson family your plane is ready please go to gate 8

I was scared...

Once we got to gate 8, we met our piolet and instructor me and my family stepped onto the jet plane and got into the sky I was not scared of being up high I was scared of falling from height and that was exactly what I was about to do “now please watch this safety video” said the instructor. I was so wiggly I could not focus on the safety video. After we finished the video, she put our skydiving gear on us. Mum and Jessi went first, and I watched them disappear into the fluffy clouds and then dad went and then I was the only one left. I closed my eyes, straightened up and fell till I could not see the flying jet anymore. I was shivering in the air like a 5-year-old girl getting kidnapped. Then SMACK a seagull banged right into me I am like what are the odds a seagull smacks into me then it came to me, my MacDonalds chips I was saving for the car trip to lawn not the skydiving trip to lawn.

After ten minutes I could see my HOLIDAY HOUSE and then suddenly my parachute unclipped one by one, then I screamed. Then “OUCH” I yell I landed in a thorn bush. My eye was throbbing, and I could only hear a faint sound of talking outside our holiday house “Tom Tom are you okay where are you are you alright” I think it was mum. I started feeling a sting then I saw it out of my left eye a human that looked like mum IT WAS MUM. “My baby boy, are you okay? let's get you inside.” I felt a bit less of a sting and I could see out of my right eye it was just a bit blurry

The next day I felt a bit better, my eye was just a bit red but on the decent side I was excited and overjoyed that I had made it out alive, so I added that to my pros and cons list. When I had better vision strolled down to the beach and relaxed... that is my adventure that I am never ever doing again!

Blob

“Is this supposed to be funny?!!” Ms. Bronte fumed.

“I guess?” I say, experimenting. I like experimenting. Well, only with teachers like Bronte.

“DETENTION!” And I don't mind detention. Much. Anyway, the reason she's angry is... (drumroll) I, Izzy Ya, put bubblegum on the staff toilet seats! I know, I'm a genius, right?!

This evening (detention) I daydream about my drawing class. I'm looking forward to it because we get to make up our own monster! But we have to write about it in the boarder around a drawing of our monster. My head lolls to the side and the teacher snaps at me. I sigh.

In art class, I make my monster, Blob, a sludgy blob with a squeaky voice that smells like rotten eggs and the type of public toilet that nobody cleans. With huge fangs. Anyway, when Mr. Oralie comes over, he says, “Izzy! that drawing uses so much texture! I'm gonna put that up on the whiteboard and use it as an example for my next class!” I smile secretly.

"Mum, I'm home!”

“OK, I'll unlock the door, just wait a sec.”

The door opens. I go inside and exhaustedly sit down with my cat in my lap. I tell Pawpaw about my victories at school, and she purrs contentedly. I stand up with Pawpaw in my arms and walk out the door. Pawpaw`s nose twitches as I climb over the fence and climb into my treehouse the secret way. I look around and freeze, sniffing the air. There was a lingering stench of rotten eggs and public toilets in the air. The hairs on the back of my neck prick up and I shiver, stretching out my arm to trace the scratches on the trunk oozing sap.

They read:

Imagination can be real.

But it was the signature that rattled me the most:

Blob

Stumbling backward I clumsily trip, sending dead leaves and berries falling. I soon do the same. The rope burns my hand as I slip, hanging by one arm. Breathing heavily my feet kick out at the seat of the swing, but I can't reach it. I fall. As I speed towards the ground, I think that it wouldn't be so bad to break a bone. Well...you wouldn't have to go to school. Just as I am about to hit the ground, a claw hooks the back of my school uniform. I gasp.

Back on my feet, I stare, horrified, at my rescuer. A strong scent of rotten eggs and public toilets reaches my nose and I retch. The thing is slimy, brown. And in a squeaky voice that would be more suited to a squirrel, it says,” Hi! I'm Blob. Will you be my friend?”

Unacceptable Disasters – Sienna M

As I arrive at Taylor’s house, the screech of the TS Tour Bus gets louder by the second. I reminded myself that today is Taylor’s first Eras Tour concert, so I must stay on track every second I'm with Taylor. When I press the ‘STOP’ button, the screeching stops immediately. I jump out of the bus and peacefully walk up to Taylor’s front door. I ring the doorbell to hear a loud ‘MEOW’ coming from inside. The door suddenly opens with Taylor insisting me to come in.

I step into Taylor’s mansion. It is as large as a school! “Do you want anything to eat or drink,” Taylor turns and faces me to look at my response. I shake my head. Taylor is covered in cat hair. She brings me to her glistening piano and plays me a few songs she has written.

By the time Taylor’s done playing me her incredible songs, writing a bit more and feeding her gorgeous cats, it is already 11:52am! We have 8 minutes to cook a mammoth lunch, eat it, triple check that we have everything in the bus (if not, go back to my house and get it/them) and get to Sofi Stadium! “Taylor, what’s for lunch?”

“An egg, ham, lettuce, carrot, cheese, and avocado burger. Why,” I shiver. Every part of me is trembling.

“We have 8, now 7 minutes to do a lot of things,” as soon as I completed my sentence, Taylor jumped to her feet like a startled kangaroo, immediately. She sprinted down to the kitchen.

I offered to help Taylor cook but she quickly turned it down. She said that it was better to have 1 person doing all the cooking and knowing where everything is than 2 people cooking and 1 of them not knowing where anything was. I agreed. Taylor was running around the kitchen like a mad lion.

When Taylor was done cooking, she commanded me to eat extremely fast, and so I did. By the time I was done eating, it was 11:56. 4 minutes!! “Taylor! We need to check everything in the bus right now,” Taylor races down the stairs and quickly sprints across the room to get outside. I follow behind her.

We open the doors to the back of the bus. Everything we needed was there. Taylor tested the instruments, and all were working perfectly.11:58. I reminded Taylor of the time and quickly got to our seats. I turned the key to start the engine. Nothing made a sound or moved. I checked the flashing red light to see that the bus had no fuel!

I jumped out of the bus and called, “I will go down to the front of the driveway and give you a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Thumbs up means push the bus.”

“Are you insane,” Taylor questioned.

“Trust me,” I exclaimed.

I ran to the front of the driveway and gave a thumbs up. I saw Taylor pushing the bus down the empty slope. The heavy vehicle doubled its size as it was tripping its way towards me. The lights change its colour to green.

The cars came racing towards where the bus was headed. The bus tramples its way to the petrol station while the cars come fearlessly on the road. I finally tried to stop the bus, but it was too late. The TS Tour Bus had gotten on the road. The bus collides with the cars but endlessly pushes through. I was not worried about the bus. I was worried about the equipment in the bus.

I fuel up the bus, trying to forget about the damage. I check my pockets only to find a handful of emptiness. Taylor stops in front of me, examining my facial expression. I finally cry, “I have no money,” Taylor immediately runs to the payment area and hands over the money. While Taylor was running back to the bus, I jumped in.

Taylor was furious that we caught nearly every red light. I was, too. I was so irritated that I purposely ran an amber light. “Did you see the light,” Taylor exclaimed.

“Are we in a hurry?!”

We arrived at Sofi Stadium at 1:30pm. I pulled on the brakes that stopped the bus in a car park area. Then I looked at the equipment while Taylor ran inside to get changed. Most of it was broken. Guitar strings everywhere, piano keys left weak, and some microphones shattered. It was a disaster. If Taylor had no microphones, she could not perform.

I sprinted inside trying to ask for help to solve this incident. I asked all the dancers, band, and singers, but they had no clue about what to do. I finally told Taylor through the door, glumly. She cheered me up, making me think that the performance will go on just by saying 9 words.

“Lucky I always bring extra microphones, just in case!”

“But the instruments are broken, too,” I cried.

“It’s fine, I can just act everything. I don’t have to play the instruments.”

I went side stage and peaked out my head to find most of the crowd holding their stomachs. I spun around to pace to the outside of Taylor’s changing room. I stated, “Taylor, you might want to be quicker, the crowd seems hungry,” Taylor must have heard me loud and clear because she suddenly swung open the door.

Taylor put on a merry expression with her elegant, dazzling, and enchanting Lover bodysuit. Every part of Taylor shone like the sun on a beautiful sunny day.

I step out of Taylor’s way so that she can blast to her position to get on stage. The dancers enter the stage, I hear the crowd roaring with joy. I see Taylor leave and get on stage. The crowd goes WILD!

The cold hard metal scraped against my knees, the rushing air pushed past my face and then I saw a hole… “Hi banana!” I yelled with a drunken smile to the startled face of a guard.

You are probably wondering what, who, where, and when I am so I will tell you: I am the leader of Hells Angels a usually drunk bikie gang, crawling the air vent of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the year 3000, trying to steal the AFL premiership cup.

“BEEP, BEEP.” beeped the phone,” Argh.” I groaned as I flopped out of bed “Boss we just heard from sources that 3 extra guards and extra police dogs have been hired.” Stated Jerold from mission control “ It will be fine Jerold.” I replied

“ But they have strict orders to protect the cup.”

“ that’s fine.” I uttered as I fell back asleep.

The first thing I did when I woke up was hack into the MCG job lists and I was in shock 97 more guards had been hired to protect the cup! So now I couldn’t start at the punt road end like I had planned for and today was grand final eve!

Chapter 2 : THE MCG

The cold hard metal scraped against my knees, the rushing air pushed past my face and then I saw a hole… “Hi banana!” I yelled with a drunken smile to the startled face of a guard “Hey you’re not supposed to be here! He yelled “ Wow I didn’t know tomatoes could talk.” I said dreamily at the sight of his face, then he grabbed me and slammed me into the back of a cell.

That was the last thing that I remembered before I woke groggily in my cell. “ We have come to test your DNA because we suspect that you might be the dangerous serial killer that we have been looking for.” It was the police! “Ok.” I hardly could utter it because I was shaking so much “BEEP.” Beeped the machine, on the side of it, it said; ‘perfect match’ “Well it looks like you are coming with us.” They declared as they stepped aside to reveal 100 FBI officers.

Today was grand final day but luckily for me the grand final started at 8:00pm, so I had 20 hours to steal the premiership cup.

When I woke up the first thing I saw was a sea of black thanks to the FBI officers. Every once in a while, 2 officers went away for a few hours to eat and sleep and at one point there was only 70 officers guarding me so I took my chance. The pepper spray stung my eyes, the bullets shredded my legs and I was finally put back in my cell.

“I think we need to bring back the death penalty just for him.” The army general told the FBI general “Yes we should.” The FBI general replied.

“Wake up and stand up!” barked the FBI as they lead me out of my cell. They then lead me to a strange hole in the wall labelled ‘Secret Acid Lake’ “Get in!” they yelled so I got in preparing to meet my death.

It was dank and smelly inside the tunnel and there was a camera following me and the conveyor belt towards the ‘Secret Acid Lake’! But just then, I spied a lonely piece of metal hanging out of the wall and I just grabbed it with my hand. I could hear the screams of people echoing as I pulled myself back up onto the conveyor belt. But just then, I realised something and grinned, If I faked my death then I can escape easier. So, I flopped back into the acid, secretly grabbing hold of the piece of metal.

Donkey Problems

RRRing! RRRing! RRRing! Thump! I fell out of bed. I sat up. Today was the day! I ran to the garage to get on my rocket propelled donkey. I smashed though the wall with my donkey-Today I was going to rod laver arena!

As I whizzed past cars felt like I wanted to scream so loud. “Giddy up donkey” I yelled. I had left my rocket propelled donkey in the car park. When I saw rodLaver voice arena it was colossal. I could not wait to go inside...

As I was sitting down, I realised Alex Demonor {my favorite player} was losing! A hush fell over the crowd. “WASPS” someone shouted. “AHHHHHH” Everyone screamed as they ran out the exits. Once I was out, I saw my rocket propelled donkey running away. “No!” I spoke. So, I grabbed my jet pack, but the wasp was coming back! I chased my donkey which was trying to capture a squirrel. With an enormous smirk, the squirrel climbed up the tree! My rocket propelled donkey flew straight through the wasp buzzed off.

I lead my rocket propelled donkey back to the grandstand and when I got there, what I saw was stunning. ALEX DEMONOR HAD WON!!

After a long day, I decided to go home. My rocket propelled donkey felt tired, so I decided to walk home. My rocket propelled donkey was moping behind me, so we went to a fancy restront to feed him. They had a wonderful time as everyone was nice and friendly. After that we went back the long way to the house because I needed to propelled donkey smashed the morning because I needed to fix the wall with bricks as the house might collapse! As I was going to bed, I saw a squirrel. Not the squirrel that climbed up the tree today, but a nice, calm, squirrel that did not mean any harm at all whatsoever. Like that wasp that chased me today.

“Oh-no” I said as the donkey I owned started casing that squirrel. “He will come back eventually” I say, “I hope so at least” and tomorrow he did that exactly that. But what I didn't realize {I mean, come on, it was the middle of the night} was that his rockets had come off! So, I decided to let him go. “Goodbye, donkey!” I yelled, and, with one snort of farewell, he left.

Waterslide Drama

Me and Ivy finally come stumbling down the stairs with our eyes half closed, while Sapphire wildly dances around the house singing Girls just wanna have fun! We are going on a plane to Singapore, so we can stay at a place Wild Wild Wet which is a waterpark as a special reward from passing our exams.

Once we got to the luxurious fancy airport, everyone was pumped up to have a hot and sugary breakfast. “What do you kids want to have for breakfast?” mum asked. “Waffles! WAFFLES!!!!! WAFFLES!!!!!” dad and Sapphire screamed excitedly. “I didn’t say you” mum thought rolling her eyes after flashing dad a death stare.

When the family got in line to board the plane well... the freakish ugly plane as Ivy called it, Sapphy (Sapphire) started complaining that she needed to go to the toilet (REALLY loudly) it was so embarrassing, because everyone was staring at us, mum took Sapphy there and they came late to get on the plane! Sapphy was forever complaining about ridiculous things.

After we arrived in Singapore, we went into the taxi to Wild Wild Wet where we unpacked everything in our hotel room, then we put on our swimsuits, and we went outside to the waterpark area (well... except for Sapphy she was dancing everywhere).

We spent a few hours playing there then we decided it was getting late so we went inside our hotel room, had dinner, and went to bed.

The next day we went to the waterpark again and Ivy and Sapphy started arguing that Sapphy wasn’t allowed on the big waterslide, but Sapphy didn’t agree. Mum said it was okay to let her on, and it actually turned out fine for Sapphy but not that fine with... ME! I was on the waterslide when part of it broke, and I fell off!

No one could see me! Suddenly I screamed. I screamed for help. Sapphy and Ivy spotted me. “Hang in there Rubes!” They cried. I was hanging off the edge of a waterslide below. They dashed towards me. My tummy was spinning like an out of control washing machine, but as they reached me, I lost my grip. I was falling in slow motion, below I could hear people screaming that they were getting soaked or looking at my falling in horror. A second later, my two sisters were racing down the stairs as if they were in stair racing competition in the Olympics. They reached the bottom just as I landed on Peggy the dog “OMG! Peggy are you ok?” Sapphy asked, covering her mouth with her hands. What about me? I thought, at the same time when Peggy QUACKED!? This is what Peggy did to answer Sapphy “Quack” We all knew each other were thinking What the......?

Surely but sadly Wild Wild Wet closed so they could clean up the mess and repair the waterslide. When we had left and gone back home, my sisters and I hung our heads as we walked through the front door of our house, mum and dad thought that we were upset so they decided to cheer us up by going to another waterpark (that is a LOT closer). When we went to the other waterpark we exclaimed “WOW!! This is nearly as awesome as Wild Wild Wet.”
