Term 3, Week 2

What we've been up to in Prep!

This term in Topic, we are learning all about Animals. To compliment this, we have already enjoyed two incursions! We have welcomed both the Responsible Pet Program and Ecolinc to school.  During the Responsible Pet Program, we learnt about how to be safe around dogs and pat a dog. Here are some pictures:

Today we learnt all about Frogs!

In Maths, we have begun our learning about Place Value by learning how to make 10 using ten ones. We know that if we have ten ones, that is the same as one ten.

Upcoming Dates

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In the upcoming fortnight, we will learn about how the /f/ sound can be written as /ff/. We have been learning all about double letter sounds and know that they are always written after a short vowel and at the end of a word. Our story of the week in week 3 will be 'Wombat Stew' and in week 4 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.'

We would like to remind families about the importance of maintaining your home reading routine. We understand how busy the days can be, but finding 5-10 minutes each day to support your child's reading is crucial to their success at school. During this time, please begin with the speed sounds at the back of the reader and talk about what 'heart words' are in the story. Only one reader needs to be read each night. Please keep in mind that reading at home is not designed to be a challenge. It is an opportunity for you to engage with your child and celebrate what they are able to do, or to simply enjoy reading a story together.

In Mathematics, Prep children will learn about number facts. We will begin with finding pairs or combinations for numbers to 10 and then extend this to 20. An opportunity to support this learning at home includes finding a small collection of items (under 20) and splitting them into groups to count.

Our Term 3 Topic of Animals is underway! In Week 3, we will be learning about Habitats and Mammals and in Week 4, we will be learning all about Minibeasts in preparation for our excursion to Ecolinc.

In Respectful Relationships, we will finish our Stress Management Topic with lessons on Positive Play.
