Principal's Report

Dear Armstrong Creek Community,

From the Principal Jess Kelly:

What a wonderful first week as Principal at Armstrong Creek School. I have been greeted so warmly by everyone and it has made me feel very welcome. I see endless opportunities at Armstrong Creek School and that is what makes me feel very excited about joining the team. This week I have had the pleasure of morning classroom visits to see the start of the day and watch the learning take place. I have made trips to Lesuire Link to watch the swimming program in action and support the team on the deck and have enjoyed shooting some hoops with students at lunchtime. It has been action packed!

The things I'm most looking forward to this term are:

  • Getting to know the students and join in on their learning
  • Meeting with as many of you all as possible
  • Giving out Creek Coins for our values on display
  • Learning the staff team and enjoying time together
  • Eating every Wednesday at the Armstrong Creek School Secondary School cafe
  • And participate in the odd specialist class

I know you are all aware of this, but we have a wonderful school and I'm very proud to be taking on the role as Principal.

I would like to personally thank Kathryn Sier for all of the work she has led in her time as Acting Principal. She has provided our community with care and consistency and always put ACS students at the forefront of her work. Kathryn (and the team) have been so supportive during handover to me and I look forward to her return from Japan so we can continue working together.

School Council and myself will work together to find some opportunities to connect further in person so you can put the face to the name. Until then, I will continue to be as visible as possible.

LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP

On Tuesday 4 June our Year 6 students participated in the Soccer, T-Ball and Netball games in the Lightning Premiership.  Even though it was such a cold day, the students rallied, showed great sportsmanship and thoroughly enjoyed their day.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Byran - Year 8

We wanted to share some exciting news on behalf of Byran one of our Year 8 Students.

Byran recently competed in a Global Taekwondo competition in the para division for Black Belts teenage group.  Byran won gold in his division!!   We hope this to be the first of many more taekwondo completions in the para division.  The photos are of Byran with his older brother Fynlay, and Alistair the founder and grand master instructor for Endurance Taekwondo.

Congratulations Byran!

Charlie - Year 6

Charlie competed on behalf of ACS at the Region Cross Country on Thursday 20 June.  He ran 3km and placed 8th with a time of 11 minutes and 55 seconds.

Charlie's family have proudly let us know that Charlie progressed to the next level and represented ACS at the SSV State Cross Country Championships yesterday, Thursday 18 July.  Charlie battled through some fairly average weather conditions including running through flood waters at one stage!  He ran the 3 km's in 13 minutes and 24 seconds, coming 30th in a field of 95 competitors.

What a fabulous effort at a high level with competitors from across the whole state.

Congratulations Charlie!

CURRICULUM DAY

A reminder to our families that Monday 5 August, 2024 is a Curriculum Day and students will not attend school on this day.

Enjoy the week end everyone!
