Think U Know Presentation

There has been a lot of discussion regarding social media of recent weeks and the significant dangers faced by young people. Currently, the federal government is looking at increasing the age where children can access social media to 16. This is in order to protect young people from being exposed to content that they are simply not ready for. Whilst the internet has been amazing for global communication and entertainment, we know that there are those out there that use it for the wrong reasons. I strongly urge all families to use parental controls on their children’s devices and to have discussions with your children about being safe online. I also urge parents to be aware of some of the online chat portals and the potential for cyber bullying. The school has no control over what is written via these platforms, but, from time to time, we find ourselves picking up the pieces. The simplest solution is to avoid these platforms for children under 13 years of age and to encourage children to meet up with their friends and play in person. There are many online apps that are wonderful for children to use that are safe and easy to use. We are certainly not anti-technology, but we do recommend that parents are aware of what their children are doing online, for their safety and for the safety of others.

To assist with this, we have arranged for a parent information through Think U Know.

It will be held on Thursday 18th July and I encourage all families to send at least one representative to hear the latest, up-to-date information about how to keep your child safe.
