In 2024 Vermont Secondary College, the Well Being team and House teams are implementing a number of programs across year levels to support students with their well-being, relationships and mental health.
On Wednesday the 5th of June Year 10 students received a workshop discussing consent and consensual relationships which was run by an organisation called Elephant Ed. The aim of this workshop was to explore the concept of healthy relationships, sexual consent and respecting boundaries.
On Wednesday the 12th of June Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing performance ‘Sticks & Stones' for our Year 9 students. 'Sticks & Stones' is a production that explores bullying and aggression, and encourages respect, assertiveness and conflict resolution at school, at home and online. Students are challenged to consider the impact of their behaviour and develop strategies for managing emotions, seeking help and building respectful relationships.
On Tuesday the 25th of June the Year 11 students will listen to the Pat Cronin Foundation delivering a presentation called “Violence is never ok: Outcomes of a coward punch”. Some of the expected outcomes of this presentation are that students will have a better understanding about how to deal with anger before it becomes aggression and that students have an understanding of the potential life-long consequences of a single decision. It also encourages students to develop strategies that can help them manage the way they make decisions.
We are also running some small group programs for our junior students that will provide them with tools and tips around coping skills, emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships.
VSC are very excited to be running these programs for our students this year.
To assist with supporting students and reinforcing messages from these initiatives we encourage parents to keep track of the programs their young people are receiving and initiate conversation about the program, what they thought of it and its relevance to their experience.
If there are any concerns either before or after a program running at your young person’s year level, please reach out to the Well-being team on 88726300 or contact your young person’s student manager.
