ALL SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY ROAD RELAYS

On Saturday the 25th of May Vermont was represented by 3 teams at the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Road Relays event held at Princes Park.

The road relays are organised by Athletics Victoria, and involves many schools from around the state, both government and independent coming together and competing in a 4x3km race. It is a great opportunity for our students to gain some extra racing experience and prepare for our upcoming cross-country events on the School Sport Victoria calendar.

It was a glorious day for a run, with blue skies and minimal wind. You couldn’t ask for better conditions!

The day started with the U16 boys' team (Angus A, Jayden C, Cody L & Tyler S) finishing the course in a team time of 49:13 and placing 21st overall.

Then the U18 boys' team (Harry A, Taj G, Will G & Robbie P) took to the course and finished in a team time of 42:19, and placing 10th overall.

Our U18 girls' team was a mix of students from various age groups and a mix of experience. We had Leana B of year 10, Zoe G of year 8 & Noemi and Rishika of year 7 team up. They finished with a team time of 1:03:50 and placing 19th overall.

All students involved should be incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves at the event, and for their fantastic teamwork and results. It is hoped that next year we can have more teams entered, and more students involved. Thank you to the families for coming out and supporting our teams too, it is always a pleasure to have our cheer squad out in full force!

Keep an eye out for future All Schools events which will be advertised to students at school on Microsoft Teams and Compass very, very soon.

We now turn our attention to EMR cross country is on Thursday the 13th of June at Yarra Glen Racecourse. Go Vermont!

Vermont Junior Girls Footballers put on an exceptional performance at Heatherdale Reserve on Tuesday 21st May. There were many highlights throughout and the girls demonstrated a high level of skill, enthusiasm, fair play and team spirit. We look forward to progressing through to take on teams in the Eastern Region on June 17th. Thanks to Mr Squire and Mr Smyth for coaching and Lily for goal umpiring.

Intermediate

The intermediate girls football team put on a strong showing of talent at the Waverley Division competition. There were many highlights throughout the day, but rest assured the best is yet to come. The team will compete at the EMR finals on Thursday the 25th of July. Thanks to Ms D’Arcy for her expertise leading and coaching the team. All the best for the next round.

Senior

The senior girls football team were a little under represented with 18 players for 18 a side on the day, however this did not stop the team from getting the job done.

Game 1 was against Glen Waverley; it was a tight tussle in the first half. After a halftime rev up the team went out in the second half, put the foot down and played a terrific team game. There were some amazing linking plays which flowed off our halfback line into our forward line. Game 1, winners v Glen Waverley.

Game 2 against Highvale. Highvale were also low on numbers, so we agreed to play 14 a side. This opened up the game and allowed for star winger Taya C to put the jets on and create some breaking runs with the ball. Tamara A was at her whiteline feverish best, hotly contesting every hard ball there was to get.

Game 3 against Mount Waverley. This was set to be the showdown of the day; a win would see the team progress to the EMR finals. We won! It was a fantastic team effort once again. Every player had a job to do, and every player executed their role to perfection. Mount Waverley challenged us early with some forward 50 entries, but the defensive line held strong and were able to rebound seamlessly.

Special mention to our injured players turned assistant coaches Jess H and Brooke P. We hope to have you available for the next round.

The team now turns their attention to some mid-season recruiting in preparation for EMR finals which will be held on the 22nd of July in term 3.

BOYS NETBALL GALA DAY

Vermont’s junior, intermediate and senior boys' netball teams had an outstanding day of play at Knox Regional Netball Centre. Each team were overall winners in their competitive divisions and been successful in qualifying to compete at the EMR finals on the 29th of July next term. Well done and congratulations to all students and coaches involved!

YEAR 8 ROUND ROBIN

Boys Australian Football

On Friday 31/5 our Yr. 8 football team played their EMR round robin. The team performed exceptionally well and comfortably won their 2 games. I am particularly proud of their behaviour, whilst representing the college.

Game 1

VSC 18-14:122 def GWSC 0-0:0. Goals: Hugo G 4, Archie C 3, Jake H 3, Sam B 2, Ryan S 2, Nate S 2, Lewis W 1, Rani S 1

Game 2

VSC 6-3:39 def MWSC 1-1:7. Goals: Lewis W 2, Archie C 2, Hugo G 2

So many great players on the day, you could throw a big blanket around them. Well played to all. EMR will be held on Tuesday 11th of June at Elgar Park.

Girls Netball

On Friday 31st May, the Year 8 Girls Netball Teams travelled to Waverley Netball Centre at Jells Park to compete in the round-robin tournament against Mount Waverley, Highvale and Glen Waverley. Vermont was the only school with three teams (A, B and C), demonstrating what a talented bunch of netballers we have here at this school. Unsurprisingly, Vermont played spectacularly with the A and B Team winning all their games and the C Team winning 3 out of 4. The A Team will now go on to compete in the EMR finals! A special thanks to our amazing student coaches Otie, Grace, Bree and Indigo. Well done team!

Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team had a competitive day out at Monash University. Led by senior coaches Oliver L & Will G, the team were motivated for a successful day out. The team came up against some tough opposition finishing 3rd in the overall standings for the day. Much fun and enjoyment was had by all. See you again next year!

Girls Soccer

On the 31st of May, I companied the year 8 girls soccer team to Monash University to go head-to-head against other schools in the Waverley Division. I saw passion, aggression and sportsmanship. They didn’t make it through to the next round because of a single loss but we still picked up 2 wins and had a wonderful day. Written by Paul K of year 10.

Badminton

Year 8 Vermont students showed great spirit in the badminton round-robin tournament against Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, and Highvale. Laughter filled the gym as they played with determination and teamwork. Post-game, sugary treats fuelled their energy, adding to the fun. Though victories were scarce, a highlight of the day were feature matches played by our star badminton coach Josh!
