In the Garden with Mel

In the garden Grade P/1 did leaf rubbings and measured their snow peas. They also harvested mizuna, parsley, celery, kale and mint for Grade 2/3 cooking. The Grade 4’s fixed the pea tepees and made seed packets for the pumpkin seeds that were saved last week in Grade P/1 cooking.

In the Kitchen with Chris

Our Pizza theme, continued with Grade 2/3 making Potato and Rosemary Pizzas and Margherita Pizzas.

Emma’s group made the Margherita Pizzas. They cut the onions very finely and cooked them until they were soft. They measured out the Tomato Passata we made last term and cooked it with the onions until the sauce was thick. They cut the last of the basil to add to the sauce.

They also grated the parmesan cheese and measured out the mozzarella cheese.

The Potato and Rosemary Pizza group, washed and peeled the potatoes and learnt how to use the mandolin safely. They took turns to slice the potatoes thinly using the mandolin. Piper and her group, stripped the rosemary stems and cut the leaves very finely.

Once all the toppings were prepared, we kneaded and shaped the pizza dough. The dough was very soft, so we had a bit of fun trying to get it to the right texture. Each group did a great job shaping the soft dough on the pizza trays. They took turns to add the toppings they prepared. Cooper’s group made the Salad of the Imagination. Frankie and her group made another batch of pizza dough to make extra Potato and Rosemary pizzas with left over toppings. The pizzas were so delicious we ate very piece.

Wren said “All the pizzas were delicious and I made the salad dressing”

Cooper said I made the potato pizza and it’s very nice. I haven’t tried it before.”
