Textiles
Thank you, 7A, 7C, 7E, and 7G! What a wonderful and creative semester we have had.
This semester, the students have learned a range of hand and machine skills in Textiles. They have created a 3D replica food item for our Supermarket Stitch Project and a multi-surface pattern technique bag/cushion. It has been exciting to watch the students develop their design skills and creativity in this environment; while also incorporating knowledge they have learned from art and other technology subjects.
Despite it being the end of their semester, all students are welcome to join our Textiles Club to continue their journey.
Year 9 has just completed their final construction-based project. All students have taken plain white cotton fabric, tie-dyed it, and, using their developing construction knowledge, made a Coachella-inspired bucket hat. They should be so proud of what they have created this semester, leaving with a pair of shorts/pants made to fit themselves and a hat.
The technical knowledge they have gained this semester is the foundation for taking this subject in senior school. This cohort of learners has been an absolute pleasure to teach and inspire. Thank you, Year 9!
Finally, what an incredible 6 months it has been with Year 10. They have explored surface pattern techniques, fibers and fabrics, and construction methods, which led them to complete a design brief. All students made a product for a 5-year-old based on the inspiration of the four elements. The outcomes were exceptional.
The dedication from the start of this project was a credit to the students, who not only worked hard in classes but also often returned during lunch times to bring their visions to reality. Their work is currently displayed in the classroom, with our junior students asking lots of questions about it. The garments and folders will be available to view at the Subject Expo in Term 3, and the students will then get to take them home with pride.
Well done, Year 10!
