Hat and Tie day has become a tradition at our College and is a special day for our Year 12 students. A photo is taken each year to mark the occasion and is hung in the Malgobila building along side the other Hat and Tie Photos taken in past years.
Our 4th Whole school assembly was held last Thursday, current Year 12 students were in Year 7 the last time this sort of assembly took place . The assembly was a celebration and farewell, held in Boucher Hall, to wish Year 12 students good luck for their exams and future paths. At the assembly 3 students spoke of their journey at school , 2 picture presentations were shown; highlights of the year and Prep, and a Year 7 and Year 12 slide show. The assembly ended with the Year 12 students leaving the hall signifying the end of their secondary education. After the assembly students had the Hat and Tie photo taken, staff awards were given out and of course the traditional signing of jumpers.
This year our Year 12 students started a new tradition of celebrating their last day with an offsite excursion. Students and staff had an early start catching the bus at 7.00 am to travel to Rawson for Paintballing. During the day students participated in various games, enjoyed a yummy lunch from Subway, had a student awards presentation and used over 40,000 rounds of paintballs! The feedback has been extremely positive, everyone had a great day.
The exams have kicked off with English exam being the first one held on Tuesday. The VCAA exams will conclude on Wednesday 20th November.
The Graduation Evening is a celebration of our Year 12 students’ final year of secondary education and will take place on Thursday 21st November at the Riviera Christian Centre.

On Friday the 18th of November, 23 Year 9 and 10 Humanities students went to Melbourne. First up was a tour of the Treasury building to learn about the Gold Rush and its impact on Melbourne – Cody and Jack had a go at being the Governor of Victoria. After that we had a lunch stop at the Atrium building and then we continued onto the Shrine at the Remembrance. At the Shrine we had a 1 hour tour and learnt about different conflicts and Australia’s role within it. After a short rest we took a tram back up to Parliament House. Here Justin and Grace told us some funny anecdotes, Ava got to be the speaker of the lower house and we learnt that there is an estimated 6 million dollars worth of gold in Parliament House. After that it was time for a dinner stop and train ride home. Overall, a long day but lots of learning and tips to make the trip even better in 2025! A big thanks to Kayla for coming with us.
At the beginning of the year, I was fortunate enough to be selected to participate in the Rural Youth Ambassador program alongside Mackenzy and 19 other students from across rural Victoria. This program ran throughout the year and consisted of a three-day forum each term in Melbourne. (As part of the program, we needed to arrange our own transport using the public transport system.)
The program developed by Country Education Partnership provided us with leadership skills and the ability to advocate for our ideas by partnering with education sectors and governments. We focused on what we saw as issues in our schools and communities. These issues included:
We presented the issues that concerned us to senior staff from the department of education as well as presenting them to the honourable Ms Fiona Nash (Regional Education Minister).
In addition to the workshops there were also other opportunities for us as rural students. Visiting universities around the city was my personal highlight. Getting tours around Melbourne University, Monash and RMIT gave me a fantastic insight into the ‘Uni life’ and to see the layout of the different universities was great.
Throughout our trips to Melbourne, we also got to do activities such as ten-pin bowling, laser tag, escape rooms and rock climbing. All of which are activities that most rural towns don’t offer.
This program has been beneficial in countless ways. It has given me lifelong friends, potential career pathways, more independence, the ability to advocate for my ideas and ultimately has taught me to take as many opportunities as possible that come my way.
