From Leadership
Dear Families,
The last two weeks have, once again, been busy at Galilee. All students have participated in Swimming Lessons at MSAC. We would like to thank the many parent volunteers who assisted with the swimming program. As always, your assistance is greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing the new skills students have learned in swimming lessons when we return to MSAC on November 15 for our Whole School Swimming Carnival.
Cyber Safety
Thank you to the parents who attended the Cyber Safety Parent Information session last week. Your overwhelming support for our very first Galilee Cyber Safety Information Night was wonderful. We would also like to thank Mikalia Greenan and Marcus Page for preparing and running the evening. We are excited that this event has opened up dialogue around how we can effectively keep up with this digital world we live in and how we can keep our kids safe online.
Art Showcase
Next Wednesday 6th November we are having an Art Showcase at Galilee. Families are invited into the classrooms to view student artwork from this year. It is an opportunity for you to sit with your children to talk about the art that they have completed this year. We would like to thank Mrs. Linda Florenca Grillo for her work in organising the showcase.
Crossing Supervisor
We welcome Brendan, our new crossing supervisor from the City of Port Phillip. Please keep safety as your highest priority when dropping off or picking up from school. Remember to utilise the crossing at all times and avoid letting students out of your car while on the road. We have had a few 'near misses' recently with students getting out of cars (on the road and not from a parking space). Saving a minute is not worth risking the life of a child. Thank you to the majority of parents who abide by the 5 minute parking out the front of school. If you intend leaving your car, please avoid these limited spaces for the convenience of everyone.
Special Prep Assembly las week
Last week a special Prep Assembly was held in Maguire Hall. The students confidently shared their learning with parents and presented a song. We would like to congratulate our Prep students who continue to impress us - their confidence at speaking in front of a large audience is to be commended.
2025 Classes
Teachers are in the process of completing classrooms for 2025. Students are guaranteed to be in with at least one of their friends (from their selected list). Numerous other criteria are used in the selection of classes and one change can impact others. 2025 preferences for class lists can no longer be accepted from parents (as previously advertised in the newsletter).
Child Safety-School Safety Code of Conduct (MACS Policy)
At Galilee, Child safety is our highest priority. We work diligently to update policies and practices that keep our students safe. Our protocols are governed by MACS and governments. The policies are regularly updating and often require changes in our procedures at school. Please see the information below which is also on our school website. Associated members of the school community MUST NOT:
• consume alcohol when responsible for the supervision and care of students.
• consume alcohol at school or at school events in the presence of students.
In line with the MACS policy, our upcoming Carols on 6th December will be an alcohol-free event.
Student Wellbeing Parent Information Night
We encourage all parents and guardians to attend our upcoming Student Wellbeing Parent Information Night next Thursday 7th November.
Event Details:
Date: Term 4, Week 5 - Thursday, November 7th

To make it easier for all parents to attend, we are pleased to offer babysitting services for children during the session. Please let us know in advance, using the link to register below, if you will be utilising this service so we can ensure appropriate arrangements are made.
We encourage all parents to attend this session and take advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with our community in supporting the wellbeing of our children. Together, we can create a nurturing environment that helps every child thrive.

School Advisory Committee
The Galilee School Advisory Committee met earlier this week to contribute ideas towards a range of topics such as: communication, camp/excursion policy, use of the stadium, enrolments and school fees. The parent group works closely with our Leadership Team and provides a valuable contribution towards Galilee. I thank Carlo (Chair) and the other members for their voluntary work.
Closure Day and Public Holiday Next week
Next Monday 4th November is a school closure day. This day is a time in lieu day for staff. Time in lieu was bought into the education sector last year. Schools are now required to track the amount of overtime teachers do when they attend out of hours events like school camps, Sacrament Information nights, parent nights etc. Schools are then required to give this time back to staff on allocated time in lieu days. On Monday, TheirCare will be open on Monday, please book ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
Tuesday 5th November is the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday.
We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Wednesday 6th November.
Remembrance Day honours those who gave their lives in service. Monday 11 November 2024 marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.
We wish you every blessing in the coming weeks.
