Book Week 2025
Book Week is always a highlight on the school calendar at Gympie East, and this year’s celebrations were no exception! With the theme of ‘Book an Adventure’, our students from Prep through to Year 6 were able to immerse themselves in a week full of activities that brought stories, creativity, and language to life.
We began the week on Tuesday afternoon with a special visit from the Gympie Regional Library. Our Prep to Year 3 students gathered together to enjoy a selection of stories read aloud by our guest presenters. Their animated storytelling captured the attention of every child, sparking imagination and reminding us just how exciting it is to get lost in a good book. We are grateful to the library team for supporting our young readers and encouraging a love of books that will last well beyond Book Week.
Wednesday morning was another highlight as the whole school came together for our annual Book Week Dress Up Parade. The costumes were simply fantastic! From classic fairy-tale characters and superheroes to much-loved storybook favourites, our students (and staff!) showed incredible creativity and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see so many children proudly sharing which character they had chosen and the book their character belonged to. The parade wasn’t just about dressing up—it was about celebrating the stories that shape us and inspire us to read more widely.
To round out the week, Friday brought something a little different with a Rap, Rhyme and Rocking Poetry presentation. This interactive performance used rhythm, rhyme, and humour to highlight the richness of language and the fun that can be found in both reading and writing poetry. Students were laughing, clapping along, and even joining in with some of the performances. It was the perfect way to show that reading isn’t limited to books alone—it also includes poems, plays, and all the creative ways words can be brought to life.
At Gympie East, we believe that reading is the foundation for all learning. It opens doors to knowledge, fuels imagination, and builds the confidence students need to succeed. Book Week gave us the opportunity to celebrate reading in a variety of exciting ways, and we are so proud of the way our students embraced each event.
