Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Well, that is not how we wanted to farewell the Winter season. With unthinkable amounts of rain falling on Friday night, we had another round of sports washed out. With many of the ovals resembling wetlands rather than playing fields, games could just not go ahead. A very disappointing situation for all.
In fact, when we look back at this season, out of a possible 300 games across the winter codes, there were a total of 126 games missed due to byes or washouts. This equates to roughly 42% of the season lost. This is well above the average for the usual Winter season. I would like to congratulate all our boys for their commitment and patience during this very interrupted season.
On a positive note, while there were many interruptions, we had a number of teams go through the season undefeated. All teams came from Football and were spread across the age groups. This shows the depth and ability present through the Junior School.
A huge thank you to all our coaches for their dedication to coaching the boys. Without you, we wouldn’t have the strong, expansive Winter Sport Program available at the College. To all our parents/carers, thank you for getting the boys to and from their trainings and games. Your unwavering support of the boys and their teams goes a long way to creating an exciting atmosphere. A special thank you also to our Heads of Rugby and Football, Mr Macquire Tatola and Mr Jason Falzon. Your organisation and support of all the Junior School teams are greatly appreciated. It is your inspired leadership that makes all the boys better players and young men.
While there has been much disappointment in the Winter season, there has also been cause to celebrate. This year, our Chess Teams had a great season. Unperturbed by wind and rain, our Chess Teams played rain, hail or shine, moving and counter moving. The St Patrick’s College Junior School B and D teams came in second in their pools, with the A and C teams closely on their heels. A great effort from the SPC boys, providing our best results in the competition to date.
Last week, Malietau Davis (6 Black), represented the College as a member of the CIS Rugby Team. In recognition of his talent and leadership qualities, Malietau was also made captain of the team. The CIS team played well, coming away with three wins, a draw and a loss. Unfortunately, the weather affected the finals, and CIS were placed fifth in the competition. A great effort by the team. Malietau was further recognised for his talents with selection in the NSW team. A great achievement for Malietau. I know that you will all join me in congratulating him on his outstanding achievement.
A reminder that all winter sport training has now concluded. Summer sport training will commence the first week in Term 4. All boys who played in a summer team in Term 1 are expected to fulfil their commitments and play for their team in Term 4. Draws and training schedules will be released later in Term 3.
