The Learning Pit
As we embark on a new Semester of learning, students are typically exposed to new information that they need to interpret, retain, and articulate through various modes of assessment. It is not unusual for this period of new learning to make students feel challenged and somewhat uncomfortable.
This challenge is articulated in James Nottingham’s, ‘The Learning Pit’, which is a metaphor for the learning process. The Learning Pit describes the struggle and confusion associated with learning new concepts, as well as the frustration that can arise when students are pushed beyond their comfort zone to learn something new. It is important to note that The Learning Pit is not meant to be a negative experience, but rather a natural and necessary part of the learning journey.
The image below highlights the importance of resilience in the learning process as students need to show grit and determination in order to work towards success. In Stage 3, every student’s learning journey (pit) is different, and our teachers and support staff are dedicated to helping each student throughout the process.
Year 6 STEM Day – Santa Sabina College
The STEM Day will take place on Wednesday 27 August at Santa Sabina College. Students are to make their own way to and from the excursion either via public transport or by being dropped off at their equivalent ‘Kiss and Ride’ on Jersey Road. Students must arrive by 8:45 AM, and the day will conclude at 2:30 PM.
