School Council Upda

Hi WSPS community,

I am a parent to Ellen in Grade 4 and President of School Council, helping guide direction over the school’s vision, planning and culture, in the best interests our students and school community.

During the August School Council meeting, elements of the WPSP strategic plan for 2025-2029 were presented as a follow up from the school’s review earlier this year and the 2025 NAPLAN analysis for students in Years 3 and 5. There was vibrant discussion over new objectives and targets for growing and developing numeracy, literacy and learning of all students at WSPS.

As part of the school’s social and emotional wellbeing program that encourages a positive school culture and classroom environment, School Council was updated on the recently introduced ‘I Can’ program, aiming to empower Grade 3 students to build resilience and social skills.

Encouraging discussions were also had regarding Junior School Council’s program to introduce a fourth value, adding to the values of being respectful, responsible and kind. Preparations for placing a roof over the school’s bike area continue, with Junior School Council exploring the potential for added support from Darebin Council.

The policy and strategic planning committee are helping finalise WSPS’s sustainability and green purchasing policies by term four to ensure best practise and our commitment to a more sustainable future.

It has been terrific to hear about and see the excitement around the opening of the boat playground. Really appreciate all fundraising efforts led by Wales Street Social to enable this playground upgrade and the vision of School Council led by Kellie Marks over recent years, which continue to drive facility improvements at WSPS.
