Principals Report

It has been another great fortnight at WSPS, and we have much to celebrate. 

• Our first edition of our school newspaper.
• Rugby & basketball clinics for grades 4 & 5.
• A waste audit was completed by our sustainability group.
• A science incursion on light & sound for our foundation students.
• An visit to the museum and Imax for the grade 3s connected to the UOI.
• Our JSC announcing today at assembly our new school value, PERSERVERANCE It's incredibly heart warming to see our students leading this and the timeline they created giving hints and clues along the way!
• Congratulations to all our students who represented WSPS at the District Athletics carnival on Monday this week. 
• The Book Week celebrations were brilliant and the dress up parade was the icing on the cake. It is so important to value time away from a screen and encourage the love of books and reading. 
• And......our amazing Grade 6 Exhibition.  We are so proud of our incredible students who have been showing true agency in their learning throughout the Exhibition. They have taken ownership of their inquiries, asked meaningful questions, collaborated with peers, and found creative ways to share their understandings with our community. The exhibition is not only a celebration of their knowledge and skills, but also of their independence, voice, and responsibility as lifelong learners. We are inspired by the way our students have embraced challenges, pursued their passions, and demonstrated the values of the IB learner profile. Also a big shout out to the grade 6 teachers and group mentors who have guided the students throughout the process.

Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey 

 We want our families to tell us what they think.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. 

The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. 

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey opened online from Monday 18th of August to Friday 19th of September 2025.

We have sent out the parents / caregivers / guardians to all families to participate in this year’s survey. The survey is conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. We encourage all families to take the time to complete the survey to ensure our results reflect the whole community.

Free ESafety Resources for Parents 

Keeping our kids safe online is more important than ever. The eSafety Commissioner offers a fantastic range of resources and videos designed especially for families to help navigate the digital world safely. We encourage all parents to take advantage of these free tools and gain valuable insights into online safety. Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy 

At Wales Street Primary School we value the diversity of culture, ethnicity, and faith of all our students. We are proud of our diversity, and everyone is welcome at our school. Celebrating the diversity of our community makes us stronger, kinder, and more innovative. We are committed to making sure that students from all backgrounds feel accepted, supported, and able to learn. We teach all students according to our school values. This includes education around diversity and inclusion. To achieve our values and aims, everyone at Wales Street Primary School plays an important role. Every week at assembly and in our classrooms, we have reminded students of our values and the importance of using these in everything we do. To help us make Wales Street Primary School a place where everyone feels welcome, respected, and supported, we encourage you to also speak to your child about these values, as well as the importance of: - understanding that we celebrate diversity and multicultural inclusion - understanding the importance of everyone at school being treated with respect.

Vandalism

A thank you to our school community members who alerted me on Saturday morning that there was water running down the street from an unknown source in the school grounds. What we discovered as the day unfolded was that piping had been removed from four different areas, causing some major water problems. Our plumbers were able to stop the water flow on Saturday, then spent Tuesday fixing all the water connections. The police were informed and they they will do extra patrols this weekend, as there is a concern that it may happen again. If you are walking or driving around the school on the weekend and notice water coming out onto the street, please contact me by email, robyn.owens@education.vic.gov.au so we can act on it quickly.
