From the Classroom

Grade 2 Newsletter – Term 3

Grade 2 has had a wonderful Term 3 so far! Our theme this term has been Space, and the students have absolutely loved exploring the mysteries of the universe.

We began the term in Maths by learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects. To put our learning into practice, students designed and built their very own 3D moon rovers! They were able to identify the faces, edges and vertices of their creations and proudly displayed them with captions in our classroom moon scape as well as our Moon Rovers book.

In Writing, we were inspired by a short animation about a boy travelling into space. Students created their own imaginative stories, using descriptive language and experimenting with powerful words to bring their ideas to life.

Book Week was another highlight of our term. The Grade 2s looked amazing dressed up as their favourite characters, and we had the special opportunity to hear from several authors about their books and writing journeys. A standout moment was listening to Andy Griffiths talk about his new book You, Me and the Peanut Butter Monster. We also enjoyed reading Lucky’s Star, a fiction story inspired by the famous Murchison meteorite, and were lucky enough to hear the author share how the book was created. This has inspired us to begin writing our very own space-themed stories.

We have also been training hard for the upcoming Toolamba Sports Day and can’t wait to take part in the events next week.

It has been an exciting term of learning, creativity and fun, and we are looking forward to seeing what th rest of the term brings!

Grade 3/4 Dragon Eyes

Our Grade 3/4 students have been busy unleashing their creativity by designing and building their very own dragon eyes using Magiclay. They explored texture, colour, and detail to bring their mythical creatures to life. Each student created a unique and striking dragon eye that looks as though it might blink at any moment! The results are bold, colourful, and full of personality, showcasing both artistic skill and creative thinking.
